coming soob new Espn 106.3 west palm

Will this be on an HD channel? Or is B-106.3 going to vanish?

I hope that the latter is not the case. The market is over-saturated with Sports talkers, especially given that all of the Miami market Sports talkers can be heard in the West Palm Beach market.

That article explains my post a few months back asking why B106.3 still identified itself as a "CBS Station" in its legal ID. Why wasn't B106.3 part of the sale to Goodman? With WRMF, X102.3, WIRK, and Sunny, Goodman is still under the cap.

This is just dirt dumb. ??? ANOTHER sports station? What a waste.
A smaller market like West Palm will soon be able to hear
4 in-market sports stations; 760, 106.3, 104.3 and 640
and 3 out of market sport stations; 560, 790 and 940.

Don't say "well, some are a simulcast." That argument doesn't fly for 2 reasons -
1 - It's still a signal being taken up by sports and
2 - I would bet that, within about a year, they split the signals of 790/104.3 and 760/106.3 (at least part time) so they can make more money.

One more thing. They are taking a station that's got a 5.7 and is 4th in the market to simulcast a station that is getting --- a guess here since they apparently don't pay for ratings -- a 1.5 at best? Again. Dirt Dumb!

I agree, FLjack2. And keep in mind that 106.3's signal strength is in the northern part of Palm Beach County and in Martin. Their signal is lacking in Boca and parts of Delray and Boynton.

Anyway, an announcement is due at 4 PM... and since CBS killed the stream, outsiders won't be able to hear it...

So what will Urban AC listeners in West Palm listen to now? I see X-102.3 is now "#1 for Hip-Hop and MORE R&B" but that still won't fill the format hole.

Hot 105 has a good signal into much of Palm Beach County, and it carries some of the same syndicated programming that B-106.3 carried. Nonetheless, it is not the same as having a local Urban AC.

I just cannot believe the over-saturation of Sports talkers. Perhaps B-106.3 did not bill well. But I cannot imagine that there is that much revenue in Sports talk that adding yet another such station would outbill B-106.3. Moreover, as long as 104.3's signal stays in the West Palm Beach market, that station will be hard to top. Its signal is much more powerful than 106.3's.

I've always heard that, traditionally, the ratings of urban stations did not translate into the dollars. For example, a top rated urban station in the market, like NY, likely wont bill as much as WFAN, even with lower ratings. That's because a sports station is very specifically targeted to men. Bars, beer, cars, etc. Still, I highly doubt that Good Karma simulcasting 760 is going to be able to bill even NEAR what 106.3 was billing now.

I agree. Even when the 104.3 signal moves to Miramar, it will still be quite audible in Palm Beach County. It will be difficult for 106.3 to make a mark as a Sports talker.

Miami had it with about 6 80's stations not too long ago. Now its palm beaches turn with the sports talkers... oh the irony

apparently it was part of the deal that the new owners had to get out of the urban format, so therefore it makes sense to just simulcast the current station and save the money

if you'll notice 102.3 has added more R&B to it's playlist, so i guess PB Broadcasting didnt want any other competition - smart business decision...sell off a station you are required to AND keep any further competition from playing in your own sandbox

I still do not understand the series of events. Who sold B-106.3? Was it CBS or Goodman? If it was CBS, why did they not sell 106.3 to Goodman (along with their other stations)? Since Goodman was selling 104.3, his ownership group would have been within ownership limits. If it was Goodman that sold 106.3, my question is why.

I understand that 106.3's signal is limited, but so is 103.1's. I can't think of any other reason why Goodman would not have wanted 106.3.

Enough with sports in South Florida! My God, how many sports stations do we need? How can these stations make any money? With so many sports signals booming into South Florida, I'm sure the pie is as tiny as possible. 104.3 and 106.3 are wasted with their simulcasts. 790 has a great signal into Palm Beach County and 640 runs a sports format.

Not everybody enjoys sports. I remember the days when 560, 790 and 940 had great talk formats with high profile personalities.

I really hope we hit the saturation point with sports formats soon. It would be nice to have some diversity on the AM band again.

The R&B tracks 102.3 has added is no where near what an Urban AC plays. HOT 105 will gain more listeners.

Not only that, I don't see WMBX going full-blown Urban either. They still sound like a Rhythmic.

word is that WMXB has just hired Prince Markie Dee from WEDR as new lead morning show with Vanessa James who used to do The Beat 103.5 middays and promotions

looks like they ARE making some moves after all
