Coming Soon: The 3 PM Talk Show Smackdown!!!

I don't think there has ever been a time when five (yes, count them, five) talk shows have ever aired at the same time on LA television. And pretty much to some degree, they are all of the tabloid variety. And to make this even more interesting, three out of these five are the spin-offs from The Oprah Winfrey Show, which has just retired from this time slot! So, scanning the local dial at 3-4pm Mon-Fri, the five hosts doing battle this fall are (Effective Sept. 19):

Dr. Phil - KCBS
Nate Burkus - KNBC
Dr. Drew Pinsky - KTLA
Dr. Oz -KABC
Jeremy Kyle (British version of Jerry Soringer) - KTTV

Any guesses on who will win, and who will blink and move?

Yeah, Jack Benny would be preferable.

BTW, Nate Burkus is more a fashion/lifestyle show than a talk show.

...total washout. I'll probably opt for Jack Benny Program kinescopes on Jewish Life! ;D ...

You're thinking like a guy. These shows are aimed at the housewife/stay-at-home mom demo. I'd say its a toss up between Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz.

It's an epidemic...3pm weekdays in Nashville:

WKRN - Dr Phil
WSMV - Dr Oz
WTVF - Ellen
WZTV - Springer
WUXP - Swift Justice (Jackie Glass)
WNAB - Dr Drew

At least some of these shows (Dr. Oz, and Dr. Drew anyway) attempt to be informative and provide a service.

If you recall - in the 90s, there were about a dozen trashy talk shows (Jenny Jones, Sally Jesse Raphael, Ricki Lake, Richard Bey, Geraldo) all competing for who could find the most sensationalistic and outrageous topic. I remember hearing a Geraldo promo about lesbian couples who were physically abusive. Just awful.

Well Llew the Trash Talk Shows moved to Radio and Cable News outlets like MSNBC, HLN, Fox News and they all tend to be Political

3am ET/12mid PT on Antenna TV
...JLTV runs The Jack Benny Program, The Goldbergs and the WNEW-TV and KTLA versions of Soupy Sales' programs in the 3:00 PM Pacific time slot on most days. The Bennys appear to be the various public-domain episodes; Antenna TV probably has the CBS-controlled material...

Agreed...I do occasionally watch Dr. Oz, and he's not only informative, but also a bit witty and entertaining. Rachael Ray is also good at times, in that you can pick up cooking ideas...either that or you can watch her other shows on Food Network and The Cooking Channel.

I was home sick yesterday from work, and finally had an opportunity to see The Jeremy Kyle Show...all I can say is wow! His show is just as trashy as Jerry Springer's or Maury Povich's, and he makes Steve Wilkos look tame in comparison.

...in fact, the few times I've watched Dr. Oz, he impressed me as being somewhat of a cross between Dr. Drew Pinsky and Graham Kerr during his Galloping Gourmet days in Ottawa. Of the lot, he's probably the closest to any of my interests. The only possible rival I can think of to that status would be if KCAL bumped The People's Court up to 3:00 (I'm thoroughly partial to red and auburn hair, heh heh)...
