Coming soon to Fox 5 Atlanta...Conservative bias

Could there be changes in the air for the news operation at WAGA/Fox 5?

Roger Ailes, President of Fox News, is now in charge of Fox Television Stations, News Corp's local station group, which owns WAGA.

There is now talk of Ailes retooling all Fox O&O newscasts, to include elements from Fox News Channel, including its fast-pace style and conservative bias.

It is scheduled to start next month, when Geraldo Rivera's show will take over for "A Current Affair".

Up until now, it appeared that News Corp took a "hands off" approach to WAGA's newscast. They seem to use more CNN reports thant Fox News, athough they switch to FNC for breaking news.

I credit Budd McEntee, longtime news director of 22 years at WAGA (who has been at the station back during the end of it's Storer days, I believe), as well as assistant ND Bud Veazly for not letting Fox run the local news down the crapper. I wonder if Ailes will fire him Gene McHugh, WAGA's General Manager in order to ruin the station and its news operation.

Ailes is currently flying station managment, producers, and on-air talent to New York for 2 week "Fox-izeing" sessions. I have no idea if anyone from WAGA was been up there yet.

Stay tuned to see if WAGA heads down the crapper.

Geraldo with a conservative bias? I have never pictured Rivera as a conservative or even a moderate.

Back in the '90s, I remember Rivera saying on his old CNBC Rivera Live show that his political views overall were libertarian, rather than conservative, liberal, or even moderate. I don't know if that's still the case, though.

That said, I think the acceleration of Rivera-style tabloidish tendencies in reporting will do more to ruin the news operations at WAGA and other Fox O&Os than the top-down imposition of any political bias. Years before the debut of Fox News Channel, Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. was a poster child for hyper-sensational journalism, and so this new Fox O&O agenda looks to me, at least, as being mostly the work of a Rupert Murdoch eager to put a deeper personal "stamp" on some of his media properties and using Ailes as a henchman to execute the task.<P ID="signature">______________
