Let Me In - Baker and the Sensations
You were right on with your first pick - Tex Williams. Song writing credit goes to Merle Travis (and Tex); Williams first recorded the hit in 1947, and it was the first million seller for Capitol Records.Tom Wells said:Smoke Smoke Smoke (That Cigarette) Tex Williams 1968

Never heard the 1947 Tex Williams version, but in his 1968 version, he mentions the earlier version and the fellow who "sang the cigarette song, and that young fella was me..."GridLeakBias said:You were right on with your first pick - Tex Williams. Here is an early version, don't know the year but Tex is mighty young and Merle Travis is sitting to his right (plain white shirt). I have a copy of the 1947 recording somewhere, I'll IM you if I find it.Tom Wells said:Never heard the 1947 Tex Williams version, but in his 1968 version, he mentions the earlier version and the fellow who "sang the cigarette song, and that young fella was me..."GridLeakBias said:You were right on with your first pick - Tex Williams.
