One thing I thought was amusing somewhat was about 7 am some new reporter on WPRI was out in front of EMA headquarters doing his thing and commenting how he locked him and his photagrapher out of the mobile news room for a little over an hour. I guess someone had to bring the extra set of keys.

One thing do like is WPRI has little cammera's now on top of thier weather stations. How long have they had these? This is the first time I seen these.Mostly on top of Schools.

Other than that it was the same ol stay inside we will send our reporters out in the snow so you can stay home type stuff.

Anyone else in New England see anything amusing on your local affiliates.

It was nice seeing WPRI & Tony Petrarca. Using Weather Bug shots. We should see the post storm promos soon. "The Only Station Keeping You Ahead Of The Storm" something to that degree. I still say that WJAR not having a 'Chief' Meteorologist hurts them. Especially during a severe storm. But John Ghiorse was on in the afternoon. And RJ at night. But no Gary....On another note. Nice to see former WPRI reporter Nicole Muri now at WJAR.

Not amusing really, but it was nice to see a familiar face to Vermont viewers on WBZ, er CBS4, yesterday. Sera Congi, former co-anchor of the 6 and 11PM news at WCAX in Burlington was doing a live shot from Woods Hole Sunday morning. I had always wondered where she went after leaving WCAX last year. She isn't listed in the bio section of the CBS4 website though. Does she work for the station, or a freelance reporter? Her WCAX bio still exits online at wcax.com, though there are no links to it from the main site (thanks, Google): http://www.wcax.com/Global/story.asp?S=451700

Channel 4 , 5 and 7 ( Boston ) , Snow storms do happen here . Snow storms is not like 9 11 . Boston stations dont need to stop the regular broadcasting , to talk about a below avg snow storm . Boston is not Florida , snow storms happens here in Boston . Boston folks miss part of the Olympics , face the Nation and NBA Basketball games , because Boston stations act like this storm was something like the blizzard of 78 . I like the way Channel 6 in Providence RI covered this so called snow storm . Channel 6 scroll snow storm infomation on the bottom of the tv set , and channel 6 did snow storm news update during the commercial breaks . <P ID="signature">______________

But hey, if you missed Chris Matthews on WCVB, you could have rolled tape at 2:05 am!! That was one of the several shows that ch. 5 offered up during the night - and mentioned during the newscast. Not sure how many took them up on it, but it was better than anything offered by 4 or 7.

WPRI best storm coverage

Once again, WPRI shines when it matters...WJAR does not.

WPRI: newscast on the air beginning at 6:00 am with three straight hours of news and storm coverage. WPRI had two reporters with photographers (yours truly was one of those people) out in the elements to gather the video and information that was needed. WPRI aired video from Fall River, shot around 2:30 am, to show the beginning effects of the storm. A WPRI photographer (yours truly) out early on to capture the storm! Also, WPRI used live shots with a WBZ reporter out on Cape Cod during the morning. As mentioned in an earlier post, WPRI also showed the new WeatherBug locations to provide conditions throughout the viewing area. By far, WPRI did an outstanding job...outshining the competition. On top of the station's excellent morning coverage, they also did an hour-long Noon newscast with updates on the storm's track and continued live coverage from Barrington and the EMA building in Cranston. Again, WPRI dominated the storm coverage. WJAR laid a huge egg once again...this time in covering the first major snowstorm of this winter. Yes, I realize this is New England and it snows alot, but when a storm of this magnitude comes along, all stations should be covering it from any and all angles they can find. WPRI did that. WJAR did not. One more reason to Turn Away From 10.

WJAR: decided to go on the air at their regularly scheduled time...7:00 am. No WJAR reporter, photographer, live truck operator out in the storm early on. All we got to see between 7:00 and 8:00 was Mario and the new weather girl with no local video of the beginning stages of the storm. However, they did use a live shot from a WHDH reporter in Plymouth, MA. Big deal. WJAR finally had a live reporter for their 9:00 newscast at the EMA building in Cranston. They really did alot of work, since they are less then a mile away from the EMA building. I didn't see any video from anywhere in Rhode Island or Massachusetts during their morning newscasts. All I saw was the reporter doing live interviews during the 9:00 hour. I was very disappointed in WJAR's coverage. They are supposed to be "Southern New England's News Leader." After watching Sunday's storm coverage, I would really begin to differ with that moniker. Another reason to Turn Away From 10.

WLNE: I did not see any of WLNE's coverage. I did flip them on throughout the morning, and did not see any live newscasts on Channel 6. It would have been smart of them to at least go on the air at 7:00 on both WLNE and the Rhode Island News Channel instead of showing that new Jim Hummel news/talk program. In an earlier post, Ed Beal the rapper guy stated that WLNE had the best coverage. Again, another opinion I beg to differ with. I will differ with anyone who has serious problems typing out and/or speaking the English language properly anyway. A co-worker of mine told me that WLNE did an excellent story about a basketball team from Texas that was stranded at T.F. Green Airport because of the storm...and how many of them had never seen snow before. I didn't see the story myself, but I was told it was put together very well...good job on that story Channel 6.

Huh?! WJAR had one of their broadcast's regular anchors out in the storm in Providence. Not sure how you missed that considering she was not only visibly absent from the newsdesk, but that they cut to her almost immediately after the beginning of the broadcast, as well as several times throughout. They had Kelly Bates out in it, too.

Is WJAR no longer using the WeatherBug/AWS service??

Re: WPRI best storm coverage

WLNE was live at 7 am and then again at noon. Jim Hummel was outside of EMA headquarters. In addition, they had live cutins during commercial breaks throughout the day.

Pray tell how a photographer doing live reports from the field would be able to watch the competition's WHOLE newscast. Based on the last poster, he didn't and basically posted a very misleading message.

Re: WPRI best storm coverage

Most live trucks have tuners in them and truck ops like to "channel scan" in between live hits. They all do it.

Re: WPRI best storm coverage

Well, I never saw any of their reporters out in the storm until their 9:00 newscast. During the 7:00 hour, all I saw was Mario and the new weather girl in studio. I saw no live shots during the 7:00 hour. Perhaps I just missed them.

But I still stand by my opinion that WPRI had the best coverage of the first significant winter storm of the season.

Right, so he watching in BETWEEN live shots. So, there is NO way that he watched the whole newscast. I'm assuming that his live shot was at the top (or near the top) of the newscast. Therefore, he would have missed what the other station did at the top of their newscast.

Re: WPRI best storm coverage

I would have to agree there. There's no way he could've watched every minute of everyone elses newscast, especially since he was helping produce such outstanding coverage on WPRI, as he touted in the earlier post.
