Commercial and Personal Appearance Payment

As a fairly new member of the radio board, I have not had the opportunity to do many posts, but I do enjoy the information given on the board. As someone who is not in the radio or tv industry, I have a question that I hope someone can answer. When a radio personality does a personal appearance during their radio shift or a remote during someone else's show, are they paid an additional fee besides their salary from the radio station for doing that? An example would be Matt Patrick appearing at one of the dance clubs in the area, or a Howie doing his show on WNIR from the auto dealership on Saturdays. Also, how about when they do the commercials on the air. Is that part of their job, or do they get extra for endorsing a product, or taping a commerical that airs on other radio shows? If so, does anybody know what a standard fee would be? Just wondering. And thanks for all the good info given on the board.

To answer your question. Here in Columbus, which I'm assuming is similar in Cleveland/Ak/Yng..(all are paid by advertiser) and are in addition to salary unless there is something stating otherwise in a contract.

-Appearance: $100/hr (typically 2 hours) = $200 paid directly to talent

-Commercial Production: Free

-Commercials produced that run on other stations: $50 each station paid to talent

-Endorsements: Individual basis but usually a nominal fee paid directly to talent per run of commercial (ex. $10 per spot run x 25 per month = $250)
