From R&R
SiCap Industries, the company that made headlines with its profane “Sinus Buster” ads on Sirius Satellite Radio, has pulled the controversial spot even though the company says it caused an “extreme spike in sales.”
In the commercial celebrity endorser (and Albany, N.Y., radio talk show host) J.R. Gach extols the benefits of the product. He closes with the line: "The best s**t that ever was ... Sinus Buster."
Though Sirius initially aired the commercial uncensored, the company has since edited the spot, bleeping out the word, “s**t.” According to a press release from SiCap, Sirius “has been forced to censor the spot thanks to a calculated negative publicity campaign perpetrated against them by the media.”
Sirius began bleeping the Sinus Buster spots just after the NAB came out against the commercial, according to SiCap. “We don’t want to put Sirius in a sticky situation, and although their management has been very supportive concerning this commercial, we don’t want to give their enemies a venue for complaints," SiCap president Wayne Perry said in the release. The company will continue to run other spots on Sirius.
The commercial was targeted to run only on Howard Stern’s two channels. A request for comment from Sirius was not returned by press time.
Wow, apparently even this was a sh**y commercial...
