Hmm, looks like WAMZ is using the big bucks Kentuckymedia said they don't have...

HUGE TV campaign launched.. in fact every other break on Good Morning Kentuckiana this morning with the spots... billboards all over Louisville...

Cox has launched a TV campaign for Q 103.1, they have no street presence at all.. no van runs, sticker stops, nothing. No "$10/thousand dollar", "new car" launch promotions.. just 4 more songs with no talking in between, and 52 minutes of new country music every hour.. ohh yeah, only 8 commercials an hour...

WAMZ is showing they not only have the name, but, the money...

Come on COX, you have to make a good first impression, country listeners are loyal, time is running out...

Heaven forbid that WAMZ would have actually spent the money on improving their on-air product...

im not in Bob Neil's left pocket, although...the man is much more intelligent than your best friend Lowery Mays. So please excuse me on that.

Bain just swallowed this company. They are in the process of working out the details. Do you really think that after spending 19 billion dollars of equity, they are going to open up for another 500 million in promotional advertising in 6 months, your dead wrong!

Cox has the balance sheet, they have the desire to win, and right now thats what matters most. WAMZ wont be number one for the rest of eternity, and thats what your going to have to come to reality with.

i do hope you're right -- but, bottom line..new country isn't really a "new" station -- the exact same thing did ok at 103.9, all they've done is put the jukebox on a bigger signal....

Cox has a goldmine -- how are they going to use it? The station is branded right now as a station that doesn't talk, that plays song after song after song in a dead seague -- will adding local talent just replace that sweeper after those 4 back to back songs, or will they completly have to get rid of that routine (which is really all they use now), and do something new.. come on, if cox was really serious about this -- it would've launched with huge promotions, and something in place.

Between Cox and CC, I have a little more faith and respect for the folks at Cox. However, to beat a thirty plus year heritage country station you'd better be very aggressive. From the above post it seems like WAMZ is pulling out the punches to reinforce the brand. Is WAMZ vulnerable? Yes, but thus far WAMZ has done well to defend their turf.

Here is the problem, CC has slobbered over Louisville and still expects the market to give it loyalty.

WAMZ is vulnerable, even with the advertising. I think that they are smart for running a major ad campaign, and I am a little disappointed that Cox didn't do what they have in other markets when launching country.

However what Cox is doing is offering niches on either side. Will it work...I think it will work for what Cox is looking for. WAMZ has owned the country audience for quite sometime and taken all of the country ad dollars. Cox wants their share...and there is plenty to go around. WAMZ has also fumbled the ball a time or two, so if Cox sticks to their guns and starts riping holes into WAMZ, the balloon will eventually deflate!
