Commercial repeats in same hour

Back in the early 90's I remembered being horrified when the top 40 station I worked at dropped the restriction on running a spot by the same client only once in a 2-hour time period. We started allowing the spots to run once an hour. Now you can hear some stations running the same spot several times in an hour, with one station locally actually running the same spot 3 times in one stop set recently! T.V. stations are also whoring themselves out, especially with "bookend" spots. No secret why people tune out! Yes business is tough, but we're killing our audience with CRAP!!! What ever happened to programming with long-term audience retention as a goal???

With the way to economy is today (and even before, probably since the late 90's media buying boom) you're at the mercy of the sales staff, because they're the real ones that pay us.

Hmmm. People were saying that in 1960, too.
