Commercials on 89.3/100.7 WDDM

I heard a commercial... er, "sponsorship announcement" on WDDM for an establishment which said "mention you're a Dhoom FM listener and get a discount". Is this legal for non-commercial stations to do??

Yes, the mention of discounts is a violation of the FCC's underwriting rules. However, unless a formal complaint is filed with the FCC, nothing will happen. That is why so many noncomms get away with bending or breaking the rules.

They must be making money because they werre busted before and rather than go through a fine process they "volunteered" to make a donation to the US TReasury. I guess it is like an FCC plea bargain.

Personally I would MUCH rather see the issue of $hittee programming ala "pirates" be addressed than a Non-Comm allegedly airing "commercials" rather than "sponsorships." Again the FCC seems to have lost touch with reality as over on Dr. Teeth's Board there is mention they are considering allowing MORE "TIS" stations and/or increasing their TPO. Assaninity at it's First Class Finest!

WDDM may have been in trouble before but there are many others bending and breaking the rules as well... Complaining here won't do any good. Take the time to follow-up if it disturbs you to the degree it appears to... While you're at it follow-up with a previous post of yours from a couple months ago and report WKMB for unauthorized nighttime operation and see what results you yield...

No, they don't. They had an application to move to 104.7 that was dismissed.

Pacifica supposedly is not interested in selling at any price. At Family they think the world is going to end in May, so if it doesn't you might or might not have a chance.

It deff pays to dream...but right now, at least I'm doing something to fufill a dance station in the shore, and with MTV making that show hot, I've noticed the same locals that despise it all of a sudden act and dress like them, all of them hang out in Seaside, and now all of a sudden they like dance. Even though I'm internet only,I do make club appearances, talk with DJ's (which got me the B98.5 appearance) and club owners, and hopefully start something big, but now, the stream is running like a "Jack FM" but it's getting the job done. This year was great for my station, from the switch to Shoutcast, to our first broadcast in an Asbury Park venue, and will get even bigger in 2011. Hopefully one day, we may have a chance on terrestrial, or land on HD..but no matter what, we will still be around.......until The Situation loses his abs lol, but seriously, another broadcast from a venue will happen and I will let you in.
