Commercials on Antenna TV

It's been 2 months since COMCAST added Antenna-TV in my area. So far I have not seen any local commercials on it. All the spots are national spots you see on all the channels such Life Alert, Hov-a-round Scooter, End Animal Abuse, and the like. The only local spots I've seen on Antenna-TV are promos for shows on their sister stations such as CW prime-time on The CT WCCT-TV and Animation Domination on FOX.

*Note* For those on the outside looking in Tribune owns 2 stations in Hartford. WTIC-TV and WCCT-TV. WTIC-TV 61.1 is FOX. WTIC-TV 61.2 is Antenna TV. WCCT-TV 20.1 is CW and WCCT-TV 20.2 is This-TV. That's why they air promos for FOX and CW.

It may just take awhile. When WCIU in Chicago started ME-TV and Me-Too, all it was was public service ads for the first month, then slowly those were phased out for some commercials. It took a good six months or so for the public service ads to disappear and local commercials took over.

So I can imagine it'd be similar. Especially if the local stations are hustling to get local ad revenue. I recall on ME-TV an Me-Too there was a lot of ad for small businesses that normally wouldn't advertise, such as a pet cemetery. Seems like WCIU was reaching out to make sure the time was sold

No local spots on WJW 8.2 in Cleveland, even now. I don't know if they can do local ID insertion, four months after Antenna TV launched...

I just popped on KTLA 5.2 (7pm PST)and they're running the KTLA 6pm news (rebroadcast w/commercials).

It's on in lieu of The Nanny. :D ;)

So far, no local commercials on WGN-TV 9.2. I don't remember if local commercials were aired on WGN-TV 9.2 when it was LATV (in Chicago, LATV is now on WOCK-CD 13.3). I know there were no local commercials on 9.2 when it was The Tube.

During the week, the rerun of the KTLA 6:00 News covers up the Married... With Children block. I don't think MWC has appeared once on Antenna-TV here in LA. It's either replaced with a local news rerun or replaced entirely with I Dream Of Jeannie. It's the only show on Antenna's schedule that does not air in LA. Methinks KTTV/KCOP and KDOC have the broadcast rights locked up for that show.

KDOC started airing Married (at 11 and 11:30pm) about a couple weeks ago. Seeing as that they (KDOC) already airs many shows seen elsewhere in the market, MWC's exclusion on Antenna TV LA doesn't make sense unless KDOC paid a good sum to have exclusive in-market rights. KTTV/KCOP hasn't aired Married...with Children since the past summer, just about the time Tribune announced the formation of Antenna TV.

I doubt KDOC put up money to keep MWC off of other locals especially for a show that has been rerun to death on broadcast and cable tv over the last ~20 years. That's just not how they tend to operate. But be that as it may, there is a reason somewhere as to why MWC has never appeared on Antenna in LA. MWC is actively pre-empted for something else in so much as switching midway through MWC's opening credits.

I honestly thought KTTV/KCOP still aired that show but I looked up Titan TV and see that it is now absent. I suppose it'll pop up as program filler for baseball rain delays.

Married...With Children (FOX 1987-97) airs occasionally on WTIC-DT 61-2 of Hartford (owned by Tribune). The only thing local I ever see is the WTIC-DT station ID bug on the half hour. You have the big red and black "FOX-CT" logo and the tiny white lettering for "WTIC-DT 61.2 Hartford/New Haven".

As for advertising, what about The Cool TV? (WCTX-DT 59-2 of New Haven, LMA'd by LIN Broadcasting) At least once an hour is a 60-second spot for cardwoo.com, or, as the lady in the ad says: "Wow! Another gift card. What am I gonna do with all these gift cards?" :D

Well, since this is a new network, it makes sense that these commercials are airing as they are "Per Inquiry" spots. It's what got TBS started, and look at them now. (Not saying that Antenna TV will become like TBS, but just using it as an example)

We haven't got Antenna TV in Charlotte yet, but THIS TV, which airs on WBTV/3.2 (and all area cable systems) runs loads of local commercals. ME TV, which airs on WCCB/18.3 has yet to air the first local commerical, but it's only been on a few weeks. The big weakness with these subchannel networks is they'll never be available on satelite, which basically looses about a third of the audience in many areas. Should be very popular with OTA viewers, however.

...in Tucson, Journal inserts local ads into LATV on KWBA/v58.2 (frequently outside of LATV's actual spot breaks, interrupting programming). On the other hand, I haven't seen Belo insert local spots into This TV over KMSB/v11.2 at all...
