Commercials on KFI

Two commercials I don't need to hear again:
The cars for kids commercial or the one where they peddle college for everyone.

Hate to tell you but unless you tune out you're going to hear them. We have a different cars deal here in Iowa, it is cars for vision and you get a free vacation (to where they don't say) but all you gotta do is donate your old car, motorcycle or boat.

Somebody named Mike---althought it might actually be a microphone and not a person...but I don't think so---started a thread about all those fershlugginer commercials: http://radiodiscussions.com/smf/index.php?topic=229774.0

Kars For Kids is one of the most hated ones. KFI airs it a lot. KFI airs a lot of commercials a lot. Near the end of each newscast, the newsperson usually gives a teaser for the final story and says, "That and the forecast in 60 seconds." Then there will be two or three minutes of commercials, not "60 seconds." During Bill Handel's morning show, he'll sometimes give the time---for example, 8:17---and then there will be five minutes of commercials. Then he'll say it's 8:21, presumably in the hope that listeners will think they heard only four minutes of ads instead of five. And the lines of the commercials voiced by Tim Conway Jr. are all spliced together to eliminate the normal pauses between sentences---very annoying to listen to!

I'm ashamed to admit that I sing along to the "1-877-KARS-FOR-KIDS ... K-A-R-S cars for kids!" jingle.

It is funny to hear Conway peddling e-Cigarettes. It's like being back in the 50s. "For a nice, smooth smoke!"

I hear them all the time on KFI too, and always thought they were some kind of PSA filler. Or maybe an ROI where KFI gets a portion of the donation value.

Those Mike Diamond commercials STINK!

;)

The commercials that proclaim "Mike Diamond is the smell-good plumber" aren't nearly as upsetting to me as the thought that there are people in this world who actually go around smelling plumbers!

You all realize of course that every post on this thread is a testament (as if one was needed) as to the effectiveness of these ads, right?

I remember in the early 80's, KABC had a full 30 second commercial/jingle with the main tagline of "KABC, your direct connection... to life". The commercial was just an elongated super-cheesy jingle that promoted the entire daytime lineup by host (plus of course Dodger baseball). It ran both on the station and on TV. It is probably one of the most effective pieces of advertising I have ever been exposed to because over 30 years later, I still know the 1981 KABC line-up better than I do the 2013 line-up. Way better. Super Cheesy Jingle = Super Effective Advertising, like it or not.

True. They're effective cause they stick to you but I don't see myself buying e cigarettes anytime soon. They are playing The Kars for kids commercial as I type this :D

But even if you don't buy it, you're transmitting the brand name to others who might. You know how word of mouth works.
