Well... rules and regulations aside, will anyone be listening on HD in the first place, to hear any programming and/or possible commercials?
Also, not having an HD Radio I can't really experiment, but will a Class A (even a well engineered one) have much of an HD coverage range until/unless the FCC allows for increased digital power?
Alternatively - have you considered acquiring FM translators to air your HD2 and/or HD3 programming?
Or, leasing your HD2/HD3 to those who already own translators and would like to "originate" HD programming for them?
This could be a way to put even more formats on the air.
I would be interested to know if WSHW is considering creating a customized format on HD2 to feed their 107.5 Zionsville translator. They could sell local ads, etc.
I have only heard it once, and I didn't note the coverage area, but I was on 38 in Hamilton County somewhere between US 31 and Noblesville, and I did pull in 107.5, but it tended to sound too "hot" like it was overly processed and "cranked up" for lack of a better term.
My point was just that since WSHW seems to act like 107.5 could be a revenue stream for them, perhaps using the new HD2 loophole would allow them to realize their dreams.
