Commercials that drive you insane

I know this has been discussed here before - but what are some commercials that drive you insane?

Here are some of mine:

1. ANY Geico Commerical (They totally ruined Speed Racer) {I also know a few people with clean driving records who have called Geico and it's much more $$$$$ than what they're paying now)
2. ANY Febreeze Commercial
3. ANY Commercial telling me COX Digital Cable is better than Satellite
4. ANY Citi Bank Identity Theft Commercials (They do these commercials because they're the #1 bank that people send out those phising email scams for. I must get at least 5 per week and I don't even have a Citi Bank Account)
5. Almost Any Infomercial - Though there are two products I would actually buy - The Magic Bullet Blender and The Ronco Rotissere
6. ANY commercial for an upcoming movie on Lifetime. (They over kill these)
7. ANY Bob's Discount Furniture Commercial (Northeast US Furniture Chain)
8. ANY Raymour & Flanigan Commerical
9. ANY SERTA COMMERICAL (Is that the one with the Sheep?)
10. ANY SLEEPY'S COMMERICAL
11. That Commercial for Domino's Pizza with Donald Trump
12. Kirstie Alley Advertising for Jenny Craig (She claims to have lost 45 pounds, but she still looks like a fat hippo. I know that at somewhere between 330 and 350 pounds I'm one to talk about being a fat hippo, but I'm not trying to say I lost 45 pounds).
Those are 12 that I can think of off the top of my head.

I understand your pain, I really do.

But if you have this much time to spend on typing out commercials that annoy you, maybe you should not watch TV. Life is too short!

All of the Burger King ads...the creepy plastic king (he's back!), the heavy metal band wearing chicken heads (what the hell are chicken fries?)

All of the current McDonald's ads, too much bling-blink, hip-hop, yo-yo (what happened to the nice McD's ads)

McDonalds' ads

> All of the current McDonald's ads, too much bling-blink,
> hip-hop, yo-yo (what happened to the nice McD's ads)

Those commercials are aimed right square at the Top-10 markets, especially New York. I doubt McDonalds really cares what folks in the small towns think about them. While McDonalds is worldwide, they, like most national advertisers, only actively market to the biggest cities.

And it works. When they started the "I'm Lovin' It" campaign, their sales turned around. I can't stand those ads, but I'm not the guy being marketed to.

> I know this has been discussed here before - but what are

1. ANY lawyer commercial. Especially lawyer commericals.
2. ANY car commercial, local or national.
3. ANY Miller Beer commercial. Bring back the retired ballplayers!
4. ANY BankOne commercial.
5. ANY prescription-drug commercial, especially Viagra & clones. Wonder why our medical costs are so high? Somebody has to pay for these ads.
6. ANY phone-company commercial, especially Qwest - but Vonage's ads are close.
7. ANY trade-school commercial. Our local noon newscast on Fox runs these constantly. Are all KSAZ-TV viewers un- or under-employed?
8. ANY Express Home Services commercial (local to Phoenix), who's spokesperson is a loudmouthed woman who has the most irritating voice I've ever heard on TV.
9. ANY McDonalds commercial.

1. The new K-Mart commercials where you can't understand the kids singing. They are singing something like: "I Heart Huckabee's,Yeah Yeah Yeah" ad nauseam. Now I know why they closed the stores up in San Antonio because of such nonsense like that.

2. Vonage Broadband phone service with the dreadful "Woo-Hoo,Hoo Hoo Hoo" music.

3. All infomercials(especially The Handy Dandy Ladder System and Tammy Faye Bakker touting a book written by a snake oil salesman)

Add to that the wonderful new ads for "Urine Gone"...esp. when showing the product being used on the side of the porcelain (aim better, guys!!!)

The one with the fairly attractive (but muy ghetto) chick doing poetry about "mah sahlaad" has the same effect on me as dentristry without the anasthetic! It's not the ethnic aspect (so don't go there with me), it's the totally uneducated housing project use of the English language. Really bottom feeder stuff - aimed at the Maury and Jerry crowd (especially "guests").

Another annoyance is those damn BK head-banging ads for Chicken Fries. Which, by the way, are about half the size in real life as portrayed in the ads. Some ugly tatoo-infested creep is going make me hungry for chicken fries? Yeah, right. If anything, I lose my appetite watching that mess. And, they wonder why BK struggles. Lousy friggin' marketing, that's why!

And, yes I'm 25-44.

8 More That I thought of

13. ANY Vonage Commercial
14. The Cheddar Ranch Sandwich Commecial for BK with the hot chick in it. It doesn't make me want to buy the sandwich. It makes me want to date the chick.
15. The BK Heavy Metal Chicken Fries Commercial. (I haven't tried them yet)
16. The Office Max Commercial with that nerdy looking black guy.
17. Any Commercial with MALE ENHANCEMENT BOB.
18. The Commercial where the guy says "I'm in debt up to my eyeballs".
19. The Commercial for the Foxwoods Casino with the Leperchans.
20. Commercials for Stool Softener that airs on Lifetime when I'm eating a late breakfast (after 9AM) or having an early lunch (after 11:30AM)

Is there somewhere that tells the last say 20 years of mcdonald's ad campaigns? We love to see you smile, etc....

Thanks

Chicken fries are just a marketing gimmick. They take the same chicken they serve as Chicken Tenders, and shape them like French Fries. KFC tried that about 10 years ago and they failed. KFC's ads for them were pretty annoying too.

Those and Wendy's "Ranch tooth" ads are quite annoying.

Re: 8 More That I thought of

Other annoying ads:

I don't know if these airing in the States right now, but there's the ones from Wendy's I've been seeing for their new ranch sandwiches. I can't stand that Ranch Tooth guy yelling "RANCH!". They also have a bunch of ads with some new mascots, which includes a square-shaped guy with a deep voice, and a bunch of squeaking circles. Those ones aren't as annoying, but they remind me of a girl I know (!) who works for a Wendy's near me.

More later.

Hey Keith how about...

Another one in Phoenix is the blond female with the high pitched voice pitching one of those check advancement ripoffs (maybe Check Into Cash?).

The other one I can't stand is the local station promo's where every one is rated as the most accurate by some different source (CBS-5 "Most accurate weather" by WeatherRate.com and ABC-15 "Most accurate news and weather" by the Rocky Mountain Emmy Org.).

>1. ANY Geico Commerical (They totally ruined Speed Racer) {I also know a few people with clean driving records who have called Geico and it's much more $$$$$ than what they're paying now)

Did you see that State Farm one where they had the husband and wife that discussed how they moved their insurance? "I had State Farm, and she had that Gecko one"

>7. ANY Bob's Discount Furniture Commercial (Northeast US Furniture Chain)

The claymation one is kind of innovative for a furniture chain, though. Bob and the lady (don't know her name) are clay figures, dancing on swivel chairs or something, "Come on down and do Bob's swivel dance! Not 12, 11, 10 or even 9! No, No, No, it's $799!". This ad could kick Bernie & Phyl's ads with the grandkids any day.

(plus, if I can recall this much of the ad, their strategy of bombarding local stations with these ads must be working)

>10. ANY SLEEPY'S COMMERICAL

They advertise on TV? All I've seen is print.

>11. That Commercial for Domino's Pizza with Donald Trump

He used to advertise "The Big New Yorker" pizza for Pizza Hut, probably 5 years ago when he was not as well-known.

> 13. ANY Vonage Commercial

I'm with you on that

> 14. The Cheddar Ranch Sandwich Commecial for BK with the hot

That's Vida Guerra, who seems to always be on Univision.

The Rubberband Man? That has to be one of the best ads on TV.

> 19. The Commercial for the Foxwoods Casino with the

(the very ugly leprechauns, I might note)

This ad is odd because I saw it for the first time the week before St. Patrick's Day. Then it disappeared for a while, and now they're showing it again. I'd thought that it was a seasonal ad, but I guess not.

For campaign ads, Barney Frank had a really good one. He was running for John Kerry's senate seat were he to win the presidency, and his ads aired around last October and November. I don't remember at all what happened in the ads, but at the end, he would say "I'm Barney Frank, and I approve this message" as mandated. Then they would play a funny sound effect, and he would say "I don't know who else would", and kind of shrug his shoulders.

I've done everything in my power to forget that a$$clown. I haven't seen those in a long time. In fact, I thought he went under. Wishful thinking?

Folks, if you don't live in Phoenix, you've missed absolutely nothing.
Edited by Keith Elster on 08/26/05 03:27 AM.

That one doesn't ring a bell. I don't pay attention to those type of businesses since I haven't patronized them since I was in Chicago (they're called "Currency Exchanges" there and are regulated by the State of Illinois).

CBS-5 (aka KPHO-TV) hasn't been anything close to accurate in probably 30 years. Neither has KNXV since they canned Ed Phillips.

> 2. ANY car commercial, local or national.

30-minute infomercials for local dealers have got to be the worst. In the Phoenix area, a local Toyota dealer is using a VERY obnoxious pitchman in their infomercials. I won't even get into the ones shown by a local Spanish-language LPTV!

> 6. ANY phone-company commercial, especially Qwest - but

I agree with you. A company should not be calling themselves the "Spirit of Service" when they can't provide DSL to relatively new neighborhoods.

> 8. ANY Express Home Services commercial (local to Phoenix),

Speaking of home services, it looks like the Empire Carpet ads that have been local to Chicago for years have made it to Phoenix (only with their trademark phone number starting with 1-888).
