Commercials that have been airiing for years

It seems like certain commercials have been airing for years.

I'm going to be 36 years old (don't tell anyone) in a little less than 3 months and it seems like they've been running the same commercial for The Cadbury Cream Eggs at Easter time since I was in kindergarten. The one where they are "holding auditions" for the Cadbury bunny. With the bunny that goes "BOK BOK BOK."

And although not nearly as long as the one for Cadbury Cream Eggs it seems like the Hersey Kiss commercials that jingle "We wish you a Merry Christmas" has been airing for over a decade. The same for the M&M's Christmas Commercial where "Red" and Yellow" meet Santa and they both faint.

Why is it that some commercias have been airing for years?
 
The Discount Tire ad with the old lady throwing the old tire through the store window has been airing continuously since 1975. The actress who played the old lady died in 1993.
 
“How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?” That 1970 spot still pops up from time to time.
 
The holiday ones endure because they only play at select times during the year and many viewers have fond memories of these ads. The Hershey Kisses 'Jingle Bells' are an example akin to the Cadbury Easter Eggs.

The original owner of Discount Tire just died a few weeks ago. That might have been their very first TV ad.
 
The Hershey's Bells commercial dates back to 1989.
 
Another Christmas one which is one of my favorites, the one for M&M's where Red & Yellow M&M leave the red & green M&M's out for Santa and they end up meeting him in the living room, still airs in SD actually.
 
Some products are really hard to advertise in new ways. Hershey's Kisses are a great example. What do you say about a milk chocolate product that has been unchanged for 100 years? If CBS won't sell you a 10 second ad spot, might as well have a handbell chorus play "We Wish You A Merry Christmas."

The Kisses as bells is a relatively new commercial that is kind of cute.

The Empire Carpets ads with Lynn Haldren as the Empire Guy first started airing in their hometown of Chicago in the late 1970s. They (and the chain) went national in the early 2000s. Haldren, who was the ad agency guy who came up with the jingle, died a few years ago, but his voice lives on.
 
Examples that come to mind are "Master Lock - Tough Under Fire" where a sharpshooter drills a bullet through a Master padlock and of course the locking mechanism remains intact. That commercial had the distinction of being Master Lock's only commercial they would air all year (at least that was what I always was told). They always bought a spot during the Superbowl to air the ad until Superbowl spots got so pricey Master just bowed out and so did the ad. I don't know how many years it ran or how old the commercial was.

Another is my Dad's favorite that airs during the holidays and it's the Budweiser Clydesdales pulling the sleigh through the snow to the Victorian family home as a chorus sing/hum the harmony line of "King Of Beers" (a theme Bud really hasn't used in their advertising for ages.) He loves to say that to him Christmas season hasn't begun until he sees that ad and he doesn't even drink Bud, I think the ad hits him in the feels from growing up in Canada where a White Christmas and sleighs were commonplace; Not so much in California where he is now. The only thing that has changed is the voice over. I don't know who did it originally but it's now voiced by George Clooney.

Honorable mentions go to local Los Angeles ad legends Cal Worthington Ford, A-DEE Plumbing & Heating (A-DEE DO!), Dootson Truck Driving School and Al Greenwood's Bedspread Emporium. Cal Worthington still pops up here and there but not the onslaught capacity back when Cal was still of this world and his son just doesn't possess the same charismatic folksy charm Cal had.
 
Lots of Christmas commercials are brought back year after year, like the Hershey's Kisses spot; There's the Corona "Feliz Navidad" spot with the lit-up palm tree, and Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds ("These have always brought me luck"). Regarding "Holiday Greetings From Budweiser", that did indeed run forever with Ed McMahon (he was replaced by one of the network VO guys at one point, I think, and then by George Clooney).
 
Saturday afternoons on the sub-nets there is a commercial for a porch awning. Unremarkable except that they declare "for a limited time only" (referring to the price). This commercial has been running, unchanged, for almost 20 years.

Cal Worthington was not Only Big in Los Angeles but he was also known in Sacramento back in the 1980's and 1990's

If it's the one I think it is, if you listen closely you can tell that the voiceover for the price will change and varies depending on the time and station.
