Commercials that have been airing for years

A lot of commercials that only air during Holidays like Christmas or Halloween have been running for years like the Folgers and M&Ms(one sign if it's not in HD)

Many local commercials have been airing years like in Kansas City the Able Auto Service commercial that airs in the cheap airtime hours of Fox4 in Kansas City (their phone number doesn't include 913 when the area has had ten digit dialing for years and it asks people to see their ad in the SBC (old AT&T bought SBC and became the new at&t))

I don't see anything really wrong with this. Afterall, it isn't often that a commercial really "connects", so if something is successful, or even perceived successful by the client, then keep it going by all means. Repetition works!

There's a Hersheys Kisses commercial that runs every year. I'd like to see them redo it because I like the content but it looks so much softer than all the other ads. It wouldn't be hard to redo, I wouldn't think.

For non-holiday commercials (all holidays, & not just Christmas), WGN-TV & WCIU regularly run a 25+ year old Victory Auto Wreckers commercial, where the guy stands in front of an early 70's Chevy Impala, & the door comes off as the door handle is lifted. I don't know who does the voiceover work on WCIU, but Dean Richards does the voiceover work on the WGN version of the commercial. The commercial originally had a 312 area code phone number, then in November 1989, 312 was relegated to the city of Chicago, & the rest of the former 312 was given 708. Then 708 was split,& 708 went to the south suburbs, while the western suburbs where VAW is based out of ended up with areacode 630.

I do believe that the voiceover work for the WCIU version of that ad was done by Rich Koz (Svengoolie himself). The video is definitely old - the shot of the wrecking yard features a number of car bodies from the 50s. Good luck finding any of those now!

The early 80's commercial for Nair featuring four girls singing outside
a house has aired very recently, with an updated segment of them
singing on stage a la the Pussycat Dolls. That's one I remember very
well.

The Life cereal commercial with "Mikey" aired for about 15 years! (From 1971 to 1986)

The royalties probably put him through college (or maybe rehab). ;D

There's a clip on You Tube featuring CBS coverage of the 1969 military draft (imagine how that was...) and - in the ultimate non-sequitur - there's the Norelco Santa ad right in the middle of it all [at 5:22]!

That entire clip is very strange and creepy (almost bizarre) when seen in 2010, though I do recall my parents watching those draft lottery shows with great interest when I was little.

The Budweiser Xmas commercial is an oldie but a goodie. The only thing different about it over the years is the voiceover is now done by George Clooney. My Dad and I both agree that the holiday season hasn't started until we see the Clydesdales pull the sleigh.

It hasn't aired... yet.

Ah man, I was just gonna post that (Tootsie Roll Pops)! Is it still being run? It originally came out in 1968/69 (!!).

On YouTube is the original 60-second version of it, the way it was supposed to be run.

It seems like the Clydesdales have been clomping in the same Christmas ad for 25 years.

Back to the original post, we were airing old Standard Improvement Company (Kansas City) ads that still used "Westport-1-7100" as the telephone number (instead of 931-7100) well into the 2000s.

As for non-holiday commercials: I can think of two off the top of my head...

The Power Chair commercial that airs during several programs (including The Price Is Right) where the gentleman is in his Power Chair while his grandson is in the background woodworking. ("I couldn't believe it could be so easy to get one... at no cost to me!!") This one has got to be at least 10 years old now.

A commercial for some art school (forget the name) where the white-haired gentleman asks "Do you like to sketch or doodle?" ... Now, I remember seeing the same exact commercial air during the old afternoon game show block on the USA Network back in the early 1990's... I used to see it all the time after coming home from high school...

Well I am now 36 years old and some 19-20 years later I saw the same exact commercial air only yesterday... ::) I wonder if the 800 # given is the same?? :p

I miss hearing the voice of Herschel Bernadi, the original announcer of the advertisement, and the music played when he spoke.

I know what you guys mean about the Norelco and Budweiser
Christmas ads; it doesn't feel like Christmas until they run. But
I haven't seen the Norelco ad in a few years.

The Mikey commercials ran long enough that I was able to name
a dog after him. :D
