The Des Moines market has a few candidates in this category, both radio
and TV. Nominate your choice soon!

Most automation systems have the ability to substitute another spot if the scheduled one is past the kill date. That, of course, assumes that the sales and production folks put the correct information in.

When I was at KKSI ten years ago, our Audisk system could do this. We had a series of PSA's from the LDS church (probably because they came free in the mail). These were not normally scheduled, so whenever we heard the Mormons, we knew we to schedule a make-good.

Back in the old days, most stations labeled carts with kill dates (upper-right corner everywhere I worked), and announcers were supposed to check them at the beginning of their shift (or at least before the break). Of course, that was back before one person was responsible for only 2 stations (Am and FM) at the most, not 8!

Learning on a first hand basis these days about that very thing!
Actually, though, I'm talking about radio commercials with tired
music beds, or local TV production that has run a LONG, LONG time.
So, I'll nominate the TV spot for Anglo Diamonds, which I think has
been running for three years. The prior champ in local TV was the
old Ohana steakhouse commercial, which I think dated back to 1999,
and was only retired just a few months ago. (maybe it just went on
hiatus?)

We're running spots for a local business done by a former GM who left in 1999.
The client fairly recently moved to a different location, and the spots had to be edited with a tag added for the new address. But they didn't want the spots to be redone!

Does anyone know if KCRG-TV is still running the Janda Electric Motor spot with George Patrick booming "Make No Mistake... This Is A BIG ONE." I think that spot ran for a couple of decades. Even today, George can be heard on 1450-KMRY liners: "Make no mistake..."

Too funny, I thought of that Janda spot when I first read this post, too! It's been at least a year since I've seen it, but I'm SURE it's still looming out there! Ha Ha!
