Commerical stating there is News 24/7 on WHAS?!?!?!

I was leaving work last night and was listening to the CBS Weekly World Roundup around 8pm. WHAS had a new commerical for their news product stating that they have live local news 24/7 from the U of L Healthcare studio. How can they advertise something like that when its not true?

What they actually say is they are broadcasting live 24/7 from the U of L Healthcare studio. They don't mention news in the statement.

Nearly suffered heart failure when I first read this...thought they were actually getting back into serving the public interest. False alarm.

Maybe, I'm missing something but when did WHAS return to CBS?

Even that is misleading since they shut the newsroom down after 8pm and on weekends. And I doubt there is anyone there during Rush and overnight syndicated programming. As I understand it, the TOH news is canned now.

Have you noticed that WHAS is using another voice for this promo and other imaging? However, they are still using the normal voice on other promos. I don't know if they are changing to a new voice; but, it seems odd having multiple station voices.

I don't think you're accurate about weekends. I listen to some of Dave Ramsey most every Sunday afternoon, and I hear local news then.

Local news or KNN? I haven't heard a real, live local newscast on WHAS on the weekend for over five years now. I believe I read sometimes back that even the "local" news comes from either the Cincy or Nashville hub.

Well, he says the call letters, so I'm assuming it's local.

I'm sure the news reader records the news using the local formatics script, then drops it on their ftp site or records to a certain cart in their VT system. The local board op drops it in the system and it sounds like he's on the other side of the glass.

What freaks me out these days is hearing James Banzer do the news!!! He was on 55KRC in the late 70's and early 80's.... He still sounds the same.

Even without 24/7 local news like "the good ol' days" and without as much live and local programming, WHAS still pulls excellent ratings. What does that tell you?

Could WHAS cut back anymore and still achieve roughly the same amount of shares -- and make the same ammount (or more) of money?

I've also noticed that WHAS has cut out the "WAVE Stormteam Forecast" part of their jingle for weather. Wonder why that is?
Possibly looking for a higher bidder for the weather service rights? At WLW, they have had every station in town giving the weather forecast over the last decade or so. Most recently, Fox 19 bought the privilege.

WHAS obviously has you guys tuned in so they must be doing something right.

Actually, I haven't listened to WHAS for more that a few moments at a time in years and I used to consider them the gold standard of radio stations. They haven't had a preset on my car radio in ten years. Today, with few exceptions, it's a 50,000 watt AM modulator for satellite radio. There isn't anything unique that can't be heard on a slew of signals utilizing the same satellite programming.

WHAS' ratings success today goes back to the efforts of others who took the cuddly giant and built a dynasty. The current administration that has been in charge for the last fifteen or so years has had success riding on the coat tails of the predecessors.

Well, they seem to be doing okay without you. :D

You are correct, but what does THAT mean, especially so much of the programming is syndicated?

As far as them doing live TOH news on the weekends, I can tell you that as of the last time I worked there (Aug 09) Banzer was in the news room when I went in there on Saturday mornings around 8:30. I don't know how long he stayed as I only went through that area to get my coffee. I wonder if they still let them have free coffee, lol.
