'Community Auditions' coming back?

For those old enough to remember the Dave Maynard-hosted 'Community Auditions' show back in the 1960s (and '70s?), the show apparently will be making a return to WBZ and WSBK. In fairness, I post this here because Dave Maynard was a radio guy.

Anyway, upon learning of this development I immediately groaned a big 'April Fools!' to myself. But I guess it seems like it'll happen, the TV stations no doubt anticipating American Idol-like ratings. Good luck there.

Also surprising is that the show is going to be hosted by Boston radio personalities Lori Grande from WKLB-FM (102.5) and Jackson Blue from WXKS-FM (KISS 108). I say 'surprising' because I thought a natural host would be languishing Ch. 38 9pm news anchor Scott Wahle...he of the dulcet tones. I thought he'd trade his moribund news anchor career in for this schtick in a heartbeat. Or, maybe he never was give the option?

I've seen the show with the hosts that they have now, and I think they do a good job. Jackson Blue has really been making a name for himself between his show at Kiss and other outside projects. Is it still going to be from Mohegan Sun or is it going back to the old studio feel?

This is the link to the story from yesterday (3/31):

"Star of the day, who will it be? Your vote may hold the key.
It's up to you, tell us who, will be star of the day!"

I'm amazed it took this long! Here was a show that is cheap to produce,
has a following, and is local, local, local. The stations, in a top 10 market,
have the crew, have the studios already - this will give 'em something else to do!

Butchers who sing opera, little girl baton twirlers, teenage rockers, housewives who
play the piano - I love it! I voted for my then-next door neighbor when she
went on with another kid from the neighborhood, each with their guitar, and sang
Kum Ba Yah! (hey, it was the '60s...)

I am not familiar with the hosts mentioned here - bring Dave Maynard back, out of retirement.
YES!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

I'm surprised that it's taken this long for someone to put an Amateur Hour back on the air. American Idol is just an updated version of Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts or Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour. Low production costs, huge ratings, megabucks in advertising.....great idea. I wish I'd thought of it.

Yes, it's back for a second season.
I was one of the judges (along with Joyce Kulhawik and Candy O'Terry) for todays tapings at Mohegan Sun. We did four shows that will begin airing in a couple of weeks on 38 and 4 here in Boston. I'm only on the first 2 of them.....had to leave to make it back to town for my shift.
Yes, Jackson (where does he get that energy?) and Lori do an excellent job hosting.
On the second show look out for this little 8-year old girl, who's talent will knock your lights out.

And now back to RADIO discussions!!!!

The new version, that I believe has been on WNDS Ch 50, is very professional. Unlike the original version, there have been many very talented people competing.

The WBZ Community Auditions that was sponsored by Community Opticians had a variety of acts including young girls and boys from local dance schools doing their tap rountine and

older men trying get through Irish ballads. After all the acts finished they used to have a reprive where the acts would have to sing or dance again for 20 or so seconds it was very awkward.

In all the years that the show was on, I don't believe there was one contestant who ever went on to bigger and better things.

I thought it was a little tackey to see Ch 5's Gail Huff on there as a judge while her daughters CD was advertised during the breaks.
