Larry Gerson aka Larry Allen states "Their is no Progressive rock in Pittsburgh". http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/pittsburgh/s_726057.html
Larry was the Morning Man at WYDD in the 70's. WKVE 103.1 Owned by Bob Stevens who worked at WYDD the same time Mr. Gerson did, Is a Through Back to WYDD.The Article also states "No Radio Oriented toward Latinos". I give you WWCS AM 540. And Soon WPYT 660 will have an Urban Format. Please Scan Your Radio Dial, Their are Other Station's Beside KDKA and WWSW.WE Do Not Need More Interference on the Radio Bands.

Here's a bit of trivia: One of my suggestions to Bob was that he call 103.1 WYDD. The call letters are
available. Bob, however, decided to re-claim the WKVE call letters used at his former FM station in St.
Mary's. He also felt that WYDD connoted the nuimber-two rock station to WDVE, and on that point, I
could not quibble.

Because Of Pittsburgh,s Hilly Area's, WYDD had alot of Dead Spots. A Big one Was Lawrenceville ,Just Down the Allegheny River. Otherwise WYDD would have Been Number ONE to WDVE. WYDD had Better Talent and Music. But WDVE had a Bigger Signal.

Not to mention the fact that depending on your age, WYDD could mean all sorts of different things (i.e. cruisin' the metro - which I will now be singing the rest of the night - grrrr).

Y-104, home of the Block Party Weekend! Yes, WYDD was a great many things over the years. Not successful
in the big picture until the tower was moved. Of course, I was PD of 104.7 during its Jammin' Oldies period from
1999-2001.

Hey Phil, I worked at WYDD from June 1975 to September 1977 doing mornings for a year and nights for a year and a half. Then production director at WTAE AM & FM for the next 31 years. I do not remember working with Bob Stevens during that period. The line-up, for the most part, was me, Jack Robertson, Herschel, Steve Downes, Ron Chavis, Richard Lee, Jim Decesare. Sorry if I left anybody out, that was a lifetime ago. I'd love to bring back a prog rock format. The fifty year olds could use something to listen to. I'm going to try for an LPFM. In the mean time I'll be tuning into XM / Sirius Deep Tracks. Sure would be great to hear Van Morrison, Dave Mason, UK, Rare Bird, Roy Buchanan, to name a few on local radio again. Laidback Larry

You are preaching to the choir - there is a tremendous void in the Pittsburgh market. Larry, I'm with you with the low power thing. Phil - I worked at WYDD in 1979 as music director. Jack was 6 to 10 am - I was on from 10 to 2 with Rose Ryan (Douglas) as my news gal. I recall Sean and Jimmy D with Jazz Depressions were there, but don't recall their dayparts. There was also Jim Kinney - he went on to WMGK in Philly. We had some great times back then - I remember fighting with Jack to play the Police single, Roxanne. He thought it sucked. I thought we needed to play it. Snappy song, plus, we were sponsoring the Police at the Decade in a few weeks. I prevailed.
Worked at YDD again from 86 - 89.
Would be great if there were a station for the rest of us. I'm bored with Pandora at work..
WYDD is on Facebook - stop by!

"Calib Michaels" would be amazing to hear on 3Ws...why put Tom Kent on when you've got someone here who could tear it up! Loved listening to him on KHB...is he on anywhere now?

I can't see WYDD's call letters resurfacing anywhere again. Not much you can do with them.

Ah, but the promo used at one time for it: "This is Pittsburgh, and this is the WYDD world of, W Y D D!"

Caleb, by the way, still does surface from time to time on 620 and 103.1.

I enjoyed Jammin Oldies also..great format

I, too, enjoyed the Jammin' Oldies format. I also enjoyed the Rock & Roll Oldies before that. When I heard The Backstreet Boys on the Jammin station, I knew it was doomed.

"Hey Brother Matt....! Where's it gonna be at? " Excuse me, I'm having late 60's WAMO flashbacks. ;)
