Comparing the Bobs, Mikes, and Jacks

So far, the only Adult Hits stations I have listened to is 101.1 Jack FM (WCBS FM) in New York City and 95.7 Ben FM in Philadelphia. I have concluded, that even that Jack, seems to concentrate on a type of music, in WCBS FM's case, rock basically. They don't seem as much "all over the road" as I would expect. What is your take on New York City's Jack?

How do other Bobs, Mikes, Jacks, Bens, etc. sound? There must be some differences between each Adult Hits station. For example, compare 101.1 Jack FM to Philadelphia's 95.7 Ben FM. My personal comparison and opinion is that Ben has more variety than Jack. That simple.

Thoughts??

I believe music tests are done from market to market, and that works as a guide to hint at how the station should sound.

Although Philly's Ben is run by a different company, they still may have found from their music tests that their current playlist is the way to go.

Much like how Jack Buffalo NY, and Jack New York NY are the same company,(Infinity) but the music is still slightly different. (also a different voice over guy, but that's not my point.) <P ID="signature">______________

In the Chicago market, Jack-FM on WJMK is mostly a rock based Jack. For the last year Nine FM, operating on 3 frequencies to covering as much of the market as well, used to be all over, but since Sky Daniels left, the station mostly focusses on a classic Rock/Hot AC format, but has blended in 80's & 90's top 40, plus added more oldies since WJMK dropped oldies, and still adds new music from time to time. Their playlist is at least 3500 songs. I prefer to listen to Nine FM because of the variety, and personalities, though they're automated on evenings & overnight hours, and part of the weekend dayparts. Jack seems to have attitude and the, what I call, lack of variety.

A rock based Jack, so the rock "leader" in that market plays its rock, while Jack seeks out and finds rock songs to play that that rock station missed. Yes? No?
OR are they guilty of being too repeatitive with songs already found down the dial?

Also the fact that the owner of Philly's Ben owns 2 other rock stations in the market. They obviously want to steer Ben clear of competing with those stations.
