Comparing Time-- 2nd Edition-- q100 vs. Star

Between the hours of 4:00 and 5:00

Lets start with Star (no pun intended):
Michael Buble- Havent Met You Yet
Adele- Someone like You
Counting Crows- Mr. Jones
Jason Mraz- I won't Give Up (Hes Back, Uh Oh!)
Kelly Clarkson- Behind These Hazel Eyes
Gavin DeGraw- Not Over You (SICK OF IT!)
Taio Cruz- Dynamite (^)
Linkin Park- In the End
Katy Perry- One That Got Away
Pink- Perfect
Foster The People- Pumped Up Kicks (Not Alternative?)
Switchfoot- Dare You To move
GaGa- Paparazzi

Now to Cumulus and they're "CHR" (yeah, right):
Kings of Leon- Use Somebody
Selene Gomez- Love Song
Usher- More
Kelly Clarkson- Mr Know It All
Bruno Mars- It Will Rain (If i hear this in my car- be ready to call 911!)
Britney Spears- Till the World Ends
Jessie J- Domino
Taio Cruz- Break Your Heart
Wanted- Glad you Came
J Timberlake- SexyBack
Adele- Set Water to rain (To turn her off!)
Guetta/Nicki Minaj- Turn Me On
Foster the People- PUK It is better fitting on Q100

So whats the difference?

You picked a good one here. I have noticed over the past few weeks that Star has been leaning CHR more so than Hot AC. Perhaps the biggest difference between the two is that STAR is playing the TOP 40 songs that Q would play the hell out of 3 years ago and then dropped.

For example, your not going to here Paaparazzi by GaGa as quick on Q as you will on Star because Q is too busy playing GaGa's current top40 hit. Same goes with Adele; Someone like You has been replaced on Q with Set water to rain and Someone like you has been adopted by Star which has not got to the new one yet.

BTW: Foster the People is an alternative band BUT that particular song because popular after being played on Alternative stations for nearly a year that it became a "top 40 hit". Just think, back in the 90's, Alanis Morrisette, Sarah Mclachlan and Sugar Ray were only alt rock songs until the songs became big Top 40 hits then the Top 40 stations go their hands on the songs and played them to death.

You're not gonna hear these on Star 94 - and you're not gonna hear Michael Buble, Counting Crows, or Switchfoot on Q100

Plus, tons of new music on Star that you can't hear on Q100 - new Jason Mraz, new Matt Nathanson, new Foster The People, new Daughtry, etc.

I think that's Adele's best song. In my opinion, every release she delivers tops the previous. I must admit I like the Devin DeGraw one as well and I always enjoyed Taio Cruz's hits, even before the U.S. finally "recognized" him. "Dynamite" is actually a "normal" recurrent in many towns. Not only that, it has achieved Hot AC and AC status. So that song is actually still receiving a lot of attention across the nation and this is not one of those "unique Atlanta radio phenomenons".

If Star 94 is sounding more Chr'ish, then I guess you could say that they're more like an Adult Top 40 rather than a CHR.

While I strongly believe that Q100 could be a better CHR, I don't think they are that bad, but if I were king of the world, I definitely wouldn't want to have Q100 as an only option stand alone CHR in any major city or within a city where the other closets format couldn't be heard by many people..
