Competition = Good Radio

In the last few years, when Sunny took the bold move to start Christmas music early in November, it forced the B to also dive in early. This year no Sunny meant no B or any other station. I give Sunny credit trying a move like that years back and the first year was a tremendous success. If all the Philly stations, or for that fact all over the country, would be owned by ONLY ONE company the competition would be fierce and the listener would benefit. With this crapola of companies owning many frequencies, it causes bland, boring, radio. We all know if WIBG and WFIL were co-owned back in the day, their never would of been those wild radio wars, one would of been a different format. If this was the case today, MMR would be Active, MGK would be Hard Classic Rock and BEN would be Alternative and who knows what CC, R1, CBS and Beasley would be doing.

Agreed. With consolidation in '96 (thanks, Bill Clinton) the era of cookie cutter radio was born. Nice analogy re: WFIL and WIBG. Those were the days! Has anyone seen a radio station bumper sticker on a car lately? God, those WFIL McDonalds stickers seemingly were on every car in the Delaware Valley back in the day. And the on air product was top notch, too.

It sends shivers up my old spine knowing that the current WFIL/WNTP broadcast from the same site!!! Blasphemy!!!

I was in a junkyard last week, and a 1970 Chevy truck sported a "Did you WIBBAGE today?" sticker. It was the only thing holding the bumper on.
