Competition to Coast to Coast

Hmm lets see well there is not much is there? The Midnight Truckin Network gets airplay on some big stations like WBAP and WJR but let's not kid ourselves. Joey Reynolds? 15 years maybe, today no. And name a station over 1000kw that airs America Tonight with Kate Delaney. Any guesses? I think not. Jim Bohannon a fantastic guy but is endlessly re-running his show the answer? Guess paranoia and kooky conspiracies win.

I just resently found Overnight America with Jon Grayson(1-6 am EST). It is heard on KMOX (St.Louis) KDKA (Pittsburg) and WCCO (Minneapolis). I have found the show to be a refreshing change of pace from all the right-wing pollitical crap and the tin foil wearing UFO nuts.

Here's the link for Overnight America:

Regreattably (for me), the only one of the three stations that overnight America is on that I can receive is KMOX and that reception is iffy. (There are locals on 1010 and when I null out the splatter, 1020 is not KDKA , but a Cuban station and the situation is about the same on 830, with a local 820.)

Hopefully they will add more stations in the near future.

I would also be interested in an alternative to the UFO'er and the truck'er.

I really cannot stay very interested in the C2C show with all of its extended breaks and excruciatingly long music intros, let alone the kid glove treatment George Noory offers his guests. The show was/is more interesting with Art Bell because its was actually more realistic as even with the total kooks he had as guests, you could tell Art thought at least 75% of them were crazy.

The trucking network actually provides great information regarding current events, but when the host returns to 'trucker talk' I turn it off.

I'll try Overnight America next time I can't sleep.

Rick Barber from CC's Mile High 850 KOA Denver allegedly reaches 38 states.

Rick is a Libertarian, and that can be a plus for the unconventional unpredictable overnight audience demographic.

I hope Rollye James can get back into terrestrial syndication. Again, a Libertarian, as is Art Bell.

And if you count sports, you've got ESPN and FSR running live overnight programming.

Really? I thought FSR did away with live hosts in the overnights and now runs pre-recorded segments branded as "Fox Soup".

During the week it's on a 38 hour delay but CHML 900 out of Hamilton, Ontario runs Dr. Joy Browne 7 nights a week 2AM-5AM Eastern. I'd rather listen to her (even if I heard the show previously on WDRC or WOR) than the nut jobs on Coast to Coast and Joey Reynolds and Friends.

Also local hosts on WBZ 1030 in Boston, MA

8PM-Midnite Dan Rea
Midnite-5AM Steve LeVeille

Weekends
Midnite-5AM Jordan Rich

Not very likely. It seems to be her way or the highway when it comes to running her show. She couldn't even stay with Premiere very long to be a Sunday host for Coast to Coast. One of her pet peeves was she couldn't play the bumper music she wanted. Shortwave WWCR does play her show on a delay now, from 12-3 AM CT.

FSR recently brought Tony Bruno back to the network, and he took JT The Brick's slot. JT moved to overnights, so FSR once again has live overnight programming.

I love Coast to Coast AM with George Noory! It's a very interesting radio program.

Phil Hendrie 1-4 ET, 10p-1a PT

He seems to have gone back to nothing but fake characters talking about the news--entertaining.
Ted Bell, Margaret Grey, Doug Dannger, Art Bell (fake), Lloyd Bonafide, etc.

However does Phil take live callers vs. pre-recorded callers? The OTHER shows (Masters, McNamara/Harley, and Noory) all take callers live on the air, as does Jimbo.

Definitely need more overnight live shows w/ callers. Jay Diamond, Ernie Brown, someone like that who is passionate and entertaining.

I'd rather hear "The Joey Reynolds Show" available from the WOR Network. Fat chance of that!

There are way too many stations carrying that nutty Coast to Coast show.

Even though it's primarily a local show, another interesting talk show to listen to overnight (online anyways) is Travis Coffman's Big Show on KGUM 57 in Agana,Guam. It airs 3-6pm local time (or 12midnight-3am EST, adjust by an hour if you are on Daylight Savings Time in March).

For all those night owls out there, check out Travis' show and let us know what you think.

ot: the east coast stations that air c2cam between 10 and 5, sometimes 6, what do these stations air the additional 2 or 3 hours?

Premiere Radio feeds the show 11 hours a day. 10PM-1AM is the last 3 hours of the previous weekday show. 1AM-5AM is of course the live show. Now 5AM-9AM is a rerun of the latest show, but since so many affiliates carry the 5 AM hour rerun, it carries different advertising spots than its original broadcast. In fact Premiere considers the show's official timeslot to be 1AM-6AM, and they just mention that 5 AM is a replay of hour 1.

To avoid confusion, if you are in the Eastern time zone, log on at midnight on Monday, if you are the Central time zone, log on at 11pm Sunday night, etc.
