I installed our new Comrex ACCESS a few months ago, and noticed on their website the ARC (ACCESS Reporter Codec) app that allows users to call into the ACCESS using a registered SIP (its free through iptel.org, SUPER cool!).

The audio is much better than typical cell calls of course, so I'm hoping to make this our de-facto backup on remote broadcasts because the audio is so much better. Calls sound good even just with the in-phone speaker/mic.

The problem I'm coming across is I'd like to use a FLIPjack to give the talent a headset or a higher quality external mic to reject background noise a little better or even allow a mixer to be plugged in so multiple mics can be on the call and multiple headsets can get the station feed for cues. Anyone know of a device/cable that can take a typical 3.5mm plug and give the phone the mic audio? A typical TRS male/male plugged in apparently doesn't match the default pinouts, so is it TRRS or something else?

I've Googled the subject, but wanted to hear from an actual broadcaster for recommendations before I buy/salvage/solder something :~)

I usually have to get an adapter cable that adapts the 3.5mm jack on the phone to a 2.5mm standard handsfree jack. That 2.5mm jack can connect to the cable that's supplied with a RemoteMix Sport or Flipjack.

I've had good luck finding these adapter cables online from various places selling cell phone accessories. The one I have for my particular phone has 4 segments (TRRS) on the 3.5mm side and accepts a 3-segment (TRS) 2.5mm plug. However, I have no idea what the pinout of the phone's jack actually is.
 
It's TRRS and while most Androids have adopted the default "iPhone" style pinout, Motorola phones are different. BSW carries FlipJack cables for different style phones. For most non-Mot phones just buy the iPhone cable.

P.S. If your ACCESS is on public IP, you often don't need to use iptel. Dialing the IP address directly on ARC will result in more stable calls.
 
Yeah, we were not on a public IP, we have it behind our firewall, and issuing a new batch of 5 static IP's (they couldn't just add 1) ran an extra $25 a month, which is $25 more than free ;~)

I will try a cable with the iPhone pinout this afternoon, thanks for the info! And for our Motorola people, I'll have to scrounge up something else...

Ours is not on a static IP, but I can successfully connect to it in the ARC app using our dyndns.com pointer address. I can't remember what ports I had to forward on the router to make it work.
 
The BSW ones are all 2.5mm at least on one end and none of them had the TRRS pinout. Having trouble finding any kind of details from the other sites that sell these things.
 
If anyone is interested, I ordered the TRRS jacks, I'm just going to solder up some cables myself. Here's what I figured out for custom cables...

On the TRRS (phone) side...
Tip (Left audio out) and Ring 1 (Right audio out) are tied together to Tip of Flipjack side (audio from cell)
Ring 2 (Gnd) goes to Sleeve of Flipjack side
Sleeve (Mic) goes to Ring of Flipjack side (Mic mix audio to phone).

Yeah, that's the standard Iphone/Motorola pin-out. All other TRRS's I'm familiar with (aside from some consumer video cams's that keep ground on R2 and move Right audio onto Shield to make the jack cross-compatible with standard 1/8" TRS's) keep the Shield as ground and mic on R2. Those 4P devils are starting to show-up on Notebook and Tablet computers as well.

Where did you order the TRRS's? I need to stock-up as the last round of Notebooks around here have 4P's on them.
