Comrex DH 22

We have a Comrex DH22 Digital Hybrid. It worked fine for a while but we're now having problems. There are often problems with levels. Bring the level down - it sounds better on the air but the callers can't hear you, bring it up, it sounds like you're in a barrel. Sometimes when setting the level it may sound good on one call, and sound terrible on the next, especially cell phone calls. The Comrex seems to be a pretty good unit. Question is - do I send it off to the factory to see if they can do anything or do I start all over by purchasing another unit or brand?

If it sounds like you are in a barrel, that sounds like a bad null to me. The line conditions are such that the hybrid can't make a good null of the send audio. Have you changed anything with your phone service lately? Changed providers or gone to VoIP? Something could have changed on your line, the phone company could have put pair gain on it to add a line, or they've done something else that is causing a problem.

Cell phone and VoIP calls can be very tricky to get a good null on because of the delays and re-encoding that goes on.

Call Comrex, they will take care of you.

As stated, either the line(s) have gotten very bad, or the digital portion of the hybrid is not nulling and all you are getting is the basic analog hybrid.

Have a look at the July 1 Radio World page 16 for an article by the Comrex Support team discussing the fact they are happy to help out! Have your serial number handy.

Thanks techie2 & RolfTaylor. I just wanted to see how you guys felt about the Comrex DH 22 and if it was worth giving another shot before starting all over again with different equipment.

I've never used one, but the DH22 seems like a good hybrid. While all digital hybrids are different, any of them should be able to get a decent null under most line conditions. Unfortunately, you are at the mercy of the telcos once the connection leaves your premises.

You really mean a Gentner DH22.

This was kinda cool when it came out. The Auto ducking was sexy. But this was kinda towards the end of life for the boys out in SLC and they never really finished alot of stuff. Comrex bought the line from them and slowly phased things out. They will try to help you out, but........why settle for this when you can buy the best for less?
