I think it is appropriate that we take a moment and offer condolences to Rick Mize and his family on the loss of his daughter Kayla.

Apparently Kayla died in October, but there does not appear to have been anything posted about it on the board.

Rick Mize is currently working for Q93.7 in Oxford. He has also worked for WKNN-FM (K99)in the Gulfport/Biloxi market.

I'm very sorry to hear about that. I live in Oxford and this is the first I've heard of it. Rick is a super guy, and I hate to see he and his family suffer such a tragic loss. They will remain my my thoughts and prayers.

I didn't want to believe this, but a google search says it's unfortunately true.

First, here's the obituary from the New Albany MS paper...

Oxford student dies in car accident

An Oxford High School senior was killed in a late Friday night wreck on Highway 334, 50 feet east of Fudgetown Road.

Kayla Sue Mize, 17, of Oxford, was returning to Oxford from New Albany after the football playoff game between New Albany High School and Oxford High when her 1998 Buick Regal ran off the road and flipped over after hitting a tree.

According to the Highway Patrol, Mize was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident. The accident occurred when Mize overcorrected after beginning to go off the road.

Lafayette County Coroner Lonnie Weaver pronounced Mize dead from massive head trauma to her head and neck around midnight.

Mize was the daughter of Rick Mize, general manager of local radio stations WQLJ Q-93.7 FM and WTNM Super Talk 105.5 FM.

Approximately 1,000 people around Oxford and Lafayette County payed their respects to Mize's family Sunday evening during visitation at Waller Funeral Home in Oxford. All Oxford schools were let out at 12:15 p.m. Monday for the 2 p.m. funeral held at Oxford Baptist Church.

Second, here's the tribute page on Q93.7's website.

Yeah, I found it on their website right after I read the initial post. I looked up the high school playoffs and that game was November 18th, so it has only been a little over a month. What a sad thing, especially during the holidays.

Rick, if you read these boards at all, just know that you and your family remain in our prayers.

God bless you brother.

Matt
