Confirmed: Rush, Hannity "Transitioning To WOR"

No It's Not!

Confirmed? No way, Jose. This is a small time syndicator looking for a sales opportunity. It's not confirmed until Cumulus or WOR say so. Otherwise, it's just more speculation. There's already too much of that here.

While it is true that GCN is looking for some publicity, let's think about this for a moment. Is CC really going to let their two biggest stars stay on the competitor's radio station when they bought their own?

Or, in other words, if CC has the option of Rush and Hannity, both of whom they syndicate with their Primere arm, on 710 instead of Dave Ramsey and that borefest in the afternoon, what do you think they will do?

They make more money this way. And get CC spots on stations they don't own.

Meanwhile they get 100% of the money from the local talk shows on WOR.

Or they keep the spots on their own stations, still make money, and consolidate their operations in house.

They also don't have to pay local hosts on WOR.

That also leaves WABC with second tier, or even 4th tier programming in the form of Huckabee and whatever else they would put on PM drive. This was a different story when CC didn't own WOR and weren't involved in talk radio in NYC. I would think they would want higher ratings on WOR, and the publicity from such a switch would also bump things up a bit. I'm sure that CC can charge more for a spot during Rush than during Dave Ramsey, just based on name alone. Ditto for the afternoons.

The goal in business is to make money, not save it. And the goal in broadcasting is to reach as many people as possible. By putting their spots on WABC, CC is able to reach the majority of the NYC talk audience, not just a small portion of it.

DtotheJ owes this board an apology. This story was not "confirmed" and he should know better.

"Grand for WOR"? Maybe slightly better numbers. OR goes from a 1.1 to the mid 2s. ABC goes from the mid 2s to a 1.1. We are still talking two of the best AM signals in market one at the bottom of the barrel - and with old listeners to boot! What's the big deal?

Is Clear Channel still in the bidding for the Yankee broadcasts?

If so and they get the rights, the logical place is WOR, with that signal.

Such being the speculation, which would get the bump for day games -- Limbaugh or the Yankees? How did WABC handle that during the heyday ?

Limbaugh gets bumped. His spots do not. The station has to run in the same rate period. The station may also run Rush evenings or overnight (and bump somebody else).

Same at WTIC, the spots run even if Limbaugh is bumped for Sox.

As long as the inventory clears, Premiere doesn't get worked up.

Miss a spot though, and they'll burn your house down and take your first born.

RadioInk has an article today, citing "sources very close to the negotiations." It states that Rush Limbaugh is staying with Cumulus, except that he will switch from WABC to WOR. It is interesting that this one change would still occur, while he will remain on the other Cumulus stations that currently carry his show.
The article also offers the information that has been widely circulated elsewhere, that Hannity will be leaving Cumulus for Clear Channel stations, and Michael Savage will fill his time slot on the former.
