Confirmed: Salem To Launch Columbus FM Talker

Salem Media of Ohio has finally confirmed it will program 89.9 as a New/Talk station.
It will be interesting to see how CC Columbus reacts to FM talk on 89.9 FM. Will we
see WTVN-FM in the near future?

More here:

"The move will put Salem in head-to-head competition with Clear Channel’s heritage News/Talker in Ohio’s capitol city, AM 610 WTVN."
“I can’t think of a better time to launch a New/Talk station than right now, in Ohio the biggest of all battleground states,” said station General Manager Tom Heyl."

Yeah, like they are going to amass a boatload of cume in the next five days. LOL!

98.9 you mean?? Also, just a little late! :)

Yes, Hopefully the board editors will make a correction from 89.9 above to this 98.9.
Correct: Salem Media of Ohio has finally confirmed it will program 98.9 as a New/Talk station.

What will be the new call letters for talk 98.9 FM? A search of the FCC database shows WJKR is
not available. Maybe Salem is going to pick up WRFD-FM for 98.9 FM?

Hey, it's not against the law to proofread before you post, you know! If I didn't do that, all of mine would be a shambles. And some of them are anyways.
Yeah, someone needs to tell GM Heyl that the battle won't be going on around here very much longer. Then what?
Final thought -- good grief, everyone seemed to hate Jack when it first came here. It was one of about half a dozen classic hit stations that all of the sudden Columbus was stuck with. Now that it's going away, you're all crying about it? I guess (soon-to-come) absence makes the heart grow fonder.
Okay, another final thought -- the two new episodes of "Secrets" this week are both going to be fantastic!

98.9 FM is not exactly a "strong FM signal" :D

So true.  And 98.9's greatest signal strength is in heavily Democratic zips that would be far less likely to listen than in areas where the signal struggles.  Didn't they do any research before buying?  They would have been much better off with 102.5.

>>98.9 WJKR Columbus is now stunting with a Ronald Reagan speech until Conservative Talk "The Answer" debuts at 6am.

As of the LMA take over at 11/1/12 it's still WJKR ... Though someone should tell Salem it's WJKR "Upper Arlington / Whatever other city they want to say after the city of license" NOT WJKR "Columbus / Upper Arlington"

:)

I listened this morning, and they didn't mention "Columbus" in the Legal ID. Perhaps they were just testing you during the overnight, Matt? Haha. You passed!

Maybe the correct legal ID at 6am was "The Answer" ... to avoid the FCC paying them a visit on the first day ;) :D

Guess I was wrong going to a fish type format. Or maybe with Xmas on the horizon, it may be a switch after the first of the year. I believe this ultimately will be a fish formatted station.

It will be interesting to see how this station pans out after election season... Just listening to the first 10 mins of it capturing the sign on... I had to turn it off and I consider myself more conservative than liberal.

I liken this format along the lines of "The Right side version of what was Air America" ... and without getting political this sorta talk radio divides America more than brings us together and as a nation if we are going to ever see a real change.. We need to learn to work together and get along!...

The only thing that may bring longevity to this is that it's all Salem talkers so it's really cheap for them to run. [Automation computer in a corner, playing out an satellite stream from Salem Radio Network throw in a few ads and liners and you got 98.9 FM].

[Oh ... and I don't think this will cause WTVN to go FM..]
