So, I'm in town for the "big race"... and spent Saturday night watching Phoenix play Memphis on t.v.
I couldn't for the life of me, find the channel showing it.

Once I located My45 (ch 9)... I noticed that during halftime of the game, ch. 3 came on and gave a halftime update? Then they teased their 9-oclock newscast.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't My45 and O/O for Fox? (Fox 10)

and doesn't Fox 10 have a 9pm newscast?

So then, who allowed Ch. 3 to tease their newscast on a competitor's station? Just seems odd, unless I'm missing something.

...if Ch. 3 produces the telecasts for the Suns, then why don't they just pony up and pay for the rights to broadcast the game? (Haggerty?)

I could be missing something, but I don't think I am.

I called my friend at Fox 10, and he couldn't explain it either.

(btw) if anyone cares. Ramin Khalili has left Fox 10. His contract was up and they chose not to renew it. I also heard Vicky Nguyen is leaving at the end of her contract in January. I've heard some interest from the NBC O/O in San Jose.

Wrong indie. He works for KAZT, not KTVK.

I saw that too. I thought Cox might have put that ad there after KTVK bought time on the system. But if I were the VP of sales for KSAZ, that would make me a bit upset that Cox would do that.

They've been known to do that on some of the news and sports channels (Ads for 12 News on FNC or CNN, for example, or even CNN ads on FNC and vice-versa) but I'd never seen one broadcaster (Belo, in this case) buy time on a competitor's (Fox) station before.

Cox will sell time to local stations during local breaks on cable networks. It's never supposed to happen on local stations. We don't give them any time where they can cover our breaks. If a KTVK news update ran on KUTP, it was a huge mistake, and I can't even imagine how it happened.

(dhett's right, I'm at KAZT)

IIRC, KTVK ran news updates during halftime of Suns games on KUTP in the past, but that was many years ago, back when Chris-Craft owned KUTP and MacAmerica owned KTVK. I'd be surprised if that agreement was still in force since both stations were sold.

I think most of the in-game spots are sold by the Suns marketing department itself. KTVK buys time from the Suns, not KUTP. I don't think there's anything KSAZ/KUTP can do about that, unless they can coerce the Suns to lose a longtime sponsor.
