confused about digital tv

i have been reading alot about the new hd stations, what i don't know is the technical stuff about hd digital tv standards.( example: when vhf is weaker than uhf in somebody's post) and something about the db's leveals of vhf to uhf, i really don't understand all of this and i really fascinated to know the different things about digital tv.
i do know that digital tv has 3 or more subchannels( exampleh hd 1,hd 2, hd 3 or more) better pictures and the reception is better. any thoughts? thanks

Captex, you are right on the money about digital tv being confusing. That is exactly why consumers have taken so long to warm up to it. But now, with all new tv's required to have integrated ATSC OTA tuners, things will be much more plug and play. People can simply buy a tv, hook an antenna up to it, and get free OTA digital tv without any extra tuners or set top boxes to mess with.

I recommend strolling over to http://www.avsforum.com and start surfing. All manner of digital tv is discussed there, plus they have dedicated threads for most local markets, so you can find your market, see what channels are available and what issues are occurring in that market. Digital OTA being fairly new technology, most members of the site are more than willing to help educate the noobs.

Just a note about the AVS Forum site... you can view the site and the posts immeadiately.... but you must register before you can do a "Search", to find a particular sub-thread topic, like "Dallas". Or, you can just read through 7 pages of thread titles to find it..Once you find the Dallas HDTV thread, then there are -142- pages of posts to look at. . . :D

If you have link for a Dallas-Ft. Worth Digital (not HDTV ) OTA Thread, please post it.

There is no Dallas OTA specific thread that I can find, just the general one.

But what was asked for was an OTA-specific one. Until one magically appeared this morning (which doesn't follow the naming convention), there was no such thing.
