Wendy Miller just stated "Wrapping up our first 40 minute rock block with Tom Petty", and, checking by the three clocks I have in front of me, its 10:16am...and I am a 10%er so I know when W&J go off the air...

Was this just a slip or do they just say they did a 40 minute rock block anytime they want?

I think that anytime you say "40 minute Rock Block" or "52 Minutes Of Music every hour (our friends at 93Q), "10 in row", it leaves yourself wide open for criticism. As long as you're playing great music, you have extended music sets, and great personalities, you are going to be successful. I don't know what consultant told these companies that this is a wise way to promote your image?!

The other problem is Wendy is probably reading a "straight liner" card or scripted material, which is half the problem with Radio now. Programmers/Companies want to rely on a "uniform, homogenized" system for all jocks, instead of relying on Personalities to sell the station.

Yes, it was. When she made human errors, folks were too quick to complain. I think one (or more) of her former co-workers took the opportunity to post here about how "unprofessional and sloppy" she was at KTBZ and KLOL.

The net on net is that the listeners lose again.
Card reading drones don't support the "personality" portion of the Air Personality title. NOAA radio has gone from sheet readers to full machine narration. Why is entertainment radio dead set in that direction?

I don't think Wendy is reading from liner cards. She comes out with some real outrageous stuff that I don't think would be written up for her or any of the programs. KIOL is real personality radio. Once Outlaw Dave ends his show at 7pm I don't care about listening to 103.7. Strictly music and not to forget they still have that God awful guy on between every song that repeats Rock 103.7 blah blah blah twice every time, KIOL needs air personalities from 7pm to 5:30am and they are long overdue and I doubt it is going to happen.
