Congrats To B-96 - Number 1 cume, Top 5 AQH

B-96 had a great month in the latest round of PPM.
It's now ahead of both (CHR/Pop) Kiss 103.5 and (Hot A/C) Mix 101.9 in cume with 2,071,000, and also zooms 3.4-3.9, good for fifth (tied with Mix 101.9) in AQH.

Not as strong as other markets like Boston and Minneapolis. They have two strong stations that are above 10.0+. I am speaking of Kiss FM Boston and KDWB in Minneapolis. I dont understand why Kiss Chicago is not that high.

Because Kiss FM in Boston has almost no competition; the only other "CHR-ish" or "somewhat rhythmic" station in the market is also owned by Clear Channel - WJMN. And WJMN acts as WXKS' wingman. When you have no competition, you can rack up big numbers.

Ever been to Boston macab? Check out the radio dial there and see how milquetoast it is. BORING! Pretty much all rock, talk and AC. Heavy public radio component (for those who like that sort of thing). If you like R&B, you're screwed. Even their "classic hits" stations (of which there are two) respectively lean pop AC (i.e. somewhat lite) and classic rock.

Meanwhile, Chicago is nothing like this. We have a real, actual, competition between CHR's. We have successful urban contemporary and urban AC stations to fit every taste. We have a very hot AC (Mix) that is like a slightly older/more female skewing CHR-lite. We have lots of options. Boston, for one, has basically none of these.

So, in answer to your comment: "I dont understand why Kiss Chicago is not that high." Well, that's why.

Can't comment on Minneapolis, though I'd suspect that it is a similarly uncompetitive market.

Mix 101.9 definitely takes a huge chunk out of its listenership, probably more so than Mix 104.1 does out of Kiss 108 in Boston, and, yeah, Kiss 108 doesn't have an Urban to worry about - but overall, Chicago share numbers are really low - B96 and Mix 101.9 are tied for SECOND PLACE in terms of most listened to Chicago music stations, and their share is 3.9 - do people in Chicago not listen to the radio as much for some reason?

No, it's the other way around. There are a lot MORE stations in Chicago that split up the listening into smaller percentages. Boston is a market with relatively few signals, which is one reason why it's about the most boring large market for radio. The other extreme is Los Angeles, where KIIS wins the 12+ beauty contest with a 5.2 and joins three others with >4.0 ratings. By the way (again 12+), Chicago has FOUR stations with a share of 4.0 and higher: WGN, WVAZ, WBBM and WLS-FM. Adding to the mathematical confusion, two others posted 3.9's (WBBM-FM and WTMX). The next nine on the list posted >3.0.

Boston, on the other hand, had 10 signals with 4.0 or greater and 11 competitive in-market signals (including rimshots) with less than 4.0. Every other station below that (aside from small AMs and non comms) was from another market (i.e. Manchester, NH, Providence, Worcester, etc.). So basically 21 total signals for Boston. And Chicago? You're down around the 30th ranking station before you start counting suburban rimshots and those signals that nobody listens to. Do the math and radio options in the Chicago market are roughly double to those offered to Bostonians.

I find Chicago radio a lot more entertaining then Boston radio - probably even better than Philly radio for that matter.

BTW, I heard B96 was trending worldwide on Twitter, why was that? I bet 103.5 KISS FM must've been jealous about B96 trending worldwide!

Coming from a Bostonian, Boston radio, quite simply, SUCKS! So bland and boring, with almost no choices for rhythmic/hip hop/R&B/urban, no wonder there are DOZENS of pirate stations popping up! My question is WHEN will a station try and go after Kiss? WHEN?! They continue to get that massive 10+ share over and over. Someone needs to take a chunk out of that!

P.S. I also agree chicago radio is much better than Boston. Even your classic hits/AOR station, 97.1 The Drive, is f'ing amazing, leaps and bounds ahead of our boring and predictable Classic Hits station in Boston, WROR.

In the new PPMs released today, B and Kiss are both tied with a 3.7.

Kiss also pulled ahead of B96 in cume.
