Congrats to CBS FM

here it is, 1:15 and I'm shaking my ass to "Nowhere To Run" by Martha & The Vandellas;
thanks for keeping the 60's(and your ratings) alive, y'all

In Philly, you rarely hear the 60's on 98.1. You're lucky NYC!

yes we are..after I posted yesterday, I noticed that everytime i went near CBS FM I heard Four Tops, Supremes, motown era Gladys Knight & the Pips, etc...
Keeping the tri state area happy!!!..now bring on some Marvelettes; Don't Mess With Bill/My Baby Must Be a Magician/Hunter Gets Captured By The Game/When You're Young And In Love>....

happy Holidays, Mary, how have you been?...we need to get more MARVELETTES on CBS FM!!..they had big NYC records...."Playboy,stay away from my door.."

These are all great Marvelettes songs... Sadly, the one that'll get the most airplay, if at all, is the one that was neglected to be mentioned - "Please Mr. Postman."

And if you're lucky, you might even hear "Playboy" on the radio only if it's Mr. Hefner's birthday. SMH...

I know they do play "Postman" every so often, but the others are in the 1966-68 frame that CBS FM seems more comfortable in,and they sound amazing, drifting out of the radio..Hip-O Select just issued a beautiful 4 CD box set,"Forever More: The Complete Motown Albums Vol.2" which covers the years
of Wanda Rodgers as lead vocalist;
the first set, "Forever" was issued about a year ago,and featured all the early ,Gladys Horton years, and they're apparently selling...

and once again, CBS FM is playing "Changes" by Bowie, from a period when Top 40 fled screaming from David and his glitter rock fellow travelers;
if they play this non hit, why not the most popular in Bowie's catalog,"Rebel Rebel"(another brilliant worldwide hit that U.S. Top 40 guys ran away from,screaming in panic);
I suppose the trans-inspired lyrics keep this in 'the closet", alongside Lou Reed's lurid (like that?) "Walk On The Wild Side" a song the entire world now recognizes(and which made it to #16 nationally, much bigger than "Changes"). and the international anthem "All The Young Dudes" by Mott The Hoople(written by Bowie)...ah,well..

You can find all the Marvelettes stuff which is up in the Hudson Valley right now, the station you can hear the Marvelettes is on WGNY's "Fox Oldies" at 1220 AM and on 98.9 FM or listen to at:

http://www.foxradio.net

And "Fox Oldies" also plays a lot of 50's music that you don't get on CBS-FM that much anymore including plenty of doo-wop songs as well.

If I recall, "Changes" by David Bowie was played as a "Hall of Fame" song with the theme "New Years Resolutions". Plus "Changes" became a radio hit again after the success of "Space Oddity".

I hear "Changes" ALL the time on CBS FM(and I'm not complaining, I'm a Bowie fan);
but it never broke into Billboard's Top 40 ever,and as previously noted, both NY Top 40 and the 'earth shoe/wimp o rama' FM rock stations of the early 70's FLED from glitter era Bowie and his ilk
(with the exception of "Space Oddity" which got some extra circular help from Bowie's 'press lady' Cherry Vanilla in the 'airplay' department back in 1973);
read her auto bio "Lick Me" for details..

If you were around in the '70s, lameunia, you know that the charts were bought and paid for...they're quite irrelevant to programming a classic hits station today. You must know that it's driven entirely by test scores.

the wimp a zoid airplay in the 70's at Top 40 was driven by an attempt to secure the housewives via Helen Reddy/John Denver/ Tony Orlando,and CBS FM is playing to the audience that grew up with WABC and WMCA:
the younger 'rock 'audience was considered lost to FM, and right till the end, WABC avoided playing huge audience favorites like Joan Jett's "I Love Rock & Roll' and even "Jesse's Girl" by Rick Springfield which they toyed with and then dumped at the height of it's popularity,choosing such as Air Supply instead, because it wasn't wimpy enough for their particular agenda;
they had no idea that MTV was right around the corner and that MTV was going to **** their 'wimp/pop ' agenda right up the ***; Happy New Year,Manny!!

doing ok Lal, Thanks for asking, I like them too. Call and request 8pm to 12am maybe they will play it. :) Happy New Year!!!

thanks,Mary...Happy New Year to ya..don't miss the Dick Clark anniversary show on ABC TV New Year's Eve before the ball drops

love Motown :) the more the better!!!! :) hunter gets captured by the game is one I really like!!! :)

You can already get you Motown fix is on "Fox Oldies" in the Hudson Valley, but it's on 98.9 FM. WGNY has been playing the oldies on 98.9 for almost a year now, but the frequency on 98.9 will be a year old on February 26th, 2012 will be the 1-year anniversary of "Fox Oldies" on 98.9. Thanks to the "Fox Oldies" people including Van Ritshie, Bob O, Buffalo Bob Corstino and Joe Manglass. They all did a great job programming "Fox Oldies" including a specialty show called the "Classic Countdown" with Dick Bartley which is on every Sunday afternoon at 2 PM until 6:30 PM.
