Congrats to Hot 95.7!!!!

Either im seeing things or they finally beat KRBE in the ratings by 0.2 points.

So this means Hot's the #1 hit music station, right?

Great station, but I don't think they sound as good as KRBE. KRBE has something magic in their sound, and has for years. A group of us tried to figure it out one time, and here is what we came up with:

(1) Songs are played very slightly fast
(2) Songs are equalized a bit high around 7 kHz
(3) There is an adaptive reverb on higher frequencies that enhances higher frequencies
(4) Stereo imaging is enhanced, probably with a circuit that adds additional cancellation out of phase from the other channel.

All of these things are legacy from when KRBE was going after KILT - before it was country bumpkin music (I remember the day top-40 died on it), and then dumbed down talk, etc. The great sound on KRBE continues to make it sound louder and better than competition.

Hot 95.7 is a tremendous success story after languishing as smooth jazz after years and years of legacy country music. Great job on their part to resurrect a frequency that was essentially dead.

It really is. They are very different from other KRBE rivals in the past that tried to beat them. They find smart ways to try to become the successful station they are now, and they find unique ways to get and keep listeners.

I mean, when was the last time KRBE got whopped by a rival CHR?? around 20 years ago or something???

Hot suck their rotation is 70min they are geared toward 13 to 17 yr olds. In reality your playlist needs to be more than 30 tracks a week that will not work for the long haul

I love KRBE it will be around another 5 to 10 yrs KBRE will find a way to win this Hot will be lucky to be around in 5yrs

Apparently you don't have knowledge of music programming and demographics. Had this been March 2008, I might have agreed.

Who runs 95.7? That corporation might have something to do with its success, versus some of the others ruining radio in Houston.

CBS runs Hot 95.7. Their CHR's have been doing really good in their markets, except for NY's NOW.

I need to take a moment to congratulate the programmer; PPM is a hard game with direct competition. Being the "underdog" from the start doesn’t help much either!

Hot's PD Mark Adams is an excellent programmer. He joined HOT from JAMMiN 95.5 (now JAMMiN 107.5, Clear Channel) in Portland which enjoyed success in many of its key demos for years.

Powers, Recurrents, Golds. They all rotate very nicely on this station!

Ever since the flip from Smooth Jazz, 95.7 has sounded somewhat harsh to my ears...almost like overcompressed MP3 files (maybe they are trying to mimic iPod audio?) Odd, since the audio during the KIKK and KHJZ incarnations always sounded great.

what we are saying is 70% of the listeners are 13 to 17 yr old
