...for keeping a branding message for a whole 4 months before dropping it.

Freedom is no more. Back to just boring old 570 KVI

Well, it's been said by voices stronger than I: "Freedom's just another word...for nothin' left to lose..."

How about Hot Talk? About the only time the station did well. Freedom sucked hind ###.

Smack Talkin!

I could think of more but I'll leave that to you!

what was unsustainable anyway? the conservative republican talk? or the lame positioning statements? mr. three initials, all you good for is one quick sentence/quip. why dont you get deeper in your anti KVI thoughts...you know you can grow a pair, and let us all know:

I find your contributions quite amusing, Scott. Kinda like what you'd get from someone who drives truck for a living and the only thing they know about radio is how to use the volume & tuning knobs.

AQH has forgotten more about radio than you'll ever know.

whoaaaaa...mr three intitials, and your new pistol packin' buddy, 3 initials jr. i dont want no trouble fellas... mr three initials, you was seen headin outside of this radio saloon several weeks ago, with that brash radio talkin', whiskey drinkin' cowboy, mr. bongwater, and no ones seen hide, nor hare of mr. bongwater since. nor have they found his bullet ridden carcass yet. that six shooter you carryin' says it all..........i best be on my way...........you the man, mr corporate radio......oh, them slashed tires on my truck out in the radio saloon parkin' lot...uh, i guess i just ran over a few sharp rocks on my way in ......................................everythings cool............................................................................by the way: "conservative talk, no apologies" is the new KVI tagline. you like that, or is that too unsustainableistic in mr. three intitals mind?

Scott you are very creative.

How about a new KVI handle?

KVI, for those Taxed Enough Already?

KVI, redneck talk(just grasping at straws)

Thats a good one, 570 KVI, just grasping at straws!

Not sure where I heard it first, but I've always liked K-K-KVI.

fantastic, it's getting political now. cant we go back to bashing and praising AQH instead?

Someone may be able to pre-date this reference, but I know I first used the KKKvi reference when it was still music. Webb & I argued about some music rotations and I was sarcastically referencing that our "mix is so lilly-white we should change the calls to KKKvi". Later when the harder core talk started up others used the same handle but with different connotations. In Webb's defense, he above all others would be the FIRST to defend putting a spotlight on black artists so it wasn't a suggestion of racism, just that we didn't seem to have much "soul" feel at that point in time. KVI had tried, in a weird window of irony, to go after KOMO's mainstream music mix a bit.

yeah, that's cool and all...uh, hey, quick question...am I the only person who posts on this board that's under 65? seriously people. KJR (as an AM music station), KOL, Robin and Maynard, Ichabod, Pat Cashman, are all dead.

While I'm sure it would be really really cool to hop in a time machine and go back to "when radio was" it's not going to happen anytime soon. Can we please focus on present day? that would be awesome. thanks.

the deal is mr young, all them old record spinner cats, and old music stations you listed is part of seattle radio roots, and a much better radio day for listeners, and employees, and it wasnt all that long ago,. but heres some present day stuff to fill your pipe: voice tracked shifts, less local talents, homogenized formats, tight consultant dictated playlists, personalityless announcers by dictate. ......etc. just think, in the near future, when all the megalopoly corporates start to consolidate their major/mid market stations to just a few radio talents voice tracked for the entire nation, these 2010 days will also be considered the good ol days through future 20/20 hindsight vision.

First let me start off by saying I am under 65, actually to be honest i'm under 30 and while I don't mind talking about the present state of radio, I would rather talk about radio in the 60's/70's/80's and a little bit of the 90's as well. Actually considering the state of the world & radio in general these days I would rather go back to the way things were circa 1984 for example; although some items from today are great and probably should have been thought of earlier; like for example imagine if the internet and these message boards were around in the mid 80's, that would have been pretty cool.

I'm well under 65, but sometimes I wonder how we survived in the 80's. No cell phones, no texting, no email, no internet, no message boards. If someone had something to say they just said it. If they wanted a larger audience, they went on the radio or wrote a letter to the editor. Today, at most workplaces, if there is a power outage or the server has gone down, people honest to god don't have a clue what to do. What era is better? I'm not really sure.

I'll second LBB's comments on KVI. Webb was wonderful at being as inclusive as possible when programming oldies. He also had a tremendous knowledge of the genre.

10-4 on the mike webb comment: envision a nightly oldies show, say 7pm to midnight on your all's current dream station project "104.5 FM". imagine this mans music knowledge/education/experience free to run a good show w/o that same ol' f'n tight corporate oldies playlist as found on every other big city station in USA. hell, i'd even tune out the XM country music and news talk to listen. his KIRO talk show host days were absolutely atrocious beyond belief! his music programming, and music radio announcing days were great, and could have been even greater as we speak, with the right ownership and station in seattle.

Well just a comment--Iam under 65, although by just a few years-anyhow a great bunch of comments--All of you probably have seen the ratings for wcbs in New York--playing oldies with real personalities--strangely a CBS station (which has a history of killing off personality in radio)--I think there is hope for radio here and elsewhere around the country--it aint dead yet, and it can be more than an I-pod on the air--guess Iam just positive about things getting better--when you think of all the AM and FM freqs that are active-it is amazing that there is such a lack of creativity by owners and operators--oh well
