Congrats to Mark Simone!

Mark Simone is reporting that his show ranked #1 for its time-slot in the latest book among all NY stations, not just news and talk stations. Don't know the details, demos, etc. but it's good to see a show that's topical and fun at the same time doing well in this market. Congrats!

Various talk show hosts make this claim from time to time. Joe Piscopo has claimed the same thing from time to time, and we know that's false. I wouldn't put much stock in it until we see the details.

Inside Radio released a list of the top morning shows in NYC and WOR is #19:

So it seems a bit of a stretch to say they made up 400K in cume at 10AM.

It's anecdotal here to say the least.
But :
There was no choice for me at the wheel several years ago. Time was running out for me to catch a flight out of Allentown while myself and the Topaz and its AM radio were mired in vehicular quicksand that had not just US 22 at a standstill, but every other gosh-darn exit and alternate and side road and alley inert! St Patrick's Day 2010. See, some toxic waste truck had done its thing on the middle of the bridge over the Lehigh River. Both lanes stopped. Every vehicle in the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton book was stopped.
While I watched planes coming in for a landing at the airport, the only remaining link to relative sanity I had was WAEB 790 for update and just what the devil was going on ?

And there was Mark Simone's mix of serious and jolly in between the catastrophic WAEB traffic updates.

Thing I remembered most from his carefree turn at the mic that day was his snarky-ish, plagiarized sign-out to a caller. 'You're a great American'.
I did catch the plane with enough time to've gad two double Jameson's on the ice at the airport bar to fortify me enough to fly to Florida for my Dad's funeral. And two Tanquerays during the flight. Toora loora, Dad ! Lol.
Either talk shows, or Oldies shows on WABC : Call me an incurable Simone fan. He can even say 'Booger!' on the air and I'll listen and enjoy it.
