Congrats to N.C. Stations of the Year

The N.C. Broadcasters Association just announced its stations of the year for 2012-13 and the roster is all stations with strong local roots and great ownership. Congratulations to WXNR and WSFL-New Bern (Beasley), WLHC-Sanford (Alan Button), WBT-Charlotte (Greater Media) and WQDR-Raleigh (Curtis Media) for being recognized by their peers as the best of N.C. radio. TV awards were all presented but they weren't shared with me.

I don't know WWMO specifically but George Beasley has owned many radio stations in NC over the years, as well as TV (WNCN/17 back when it was an independent).

If it's George, that's the one. He bought it from The Olivers of Reidsville, the first owners, around 1977 or '8 and sold it in '87. Man, that thing was a real torch! Ah, I miss that kind of radio. 'MO was a great station in it's day. It really provided a great platform for preachers/ministries and a great sound for the listeners. They tried on 1130 and later 830, but never quite achieved the same thing on either. To 102.1's testimony, after it's demise, the now gone WWGL, Lexington on 94.1 did their dead level best to copy almost everything about them for a while. They got some of the same programming/sound, but could never totally cut the mustard either. Bottom line is, there will never be another 'MO. The landscape (radio, ministry and otherwise) has changed so much over the years, that I don't believe it's possible, at least on the air.

A man for whom Christ died,
Josh
