You people are amazing, a station starts doing well and you start tearing it apart. Go back to your job at enterprise.

I worked there more than 8 years ago. The last time I was back in Orlando, the station sounded positively frozen in time and creativity. It was still the same jock line-up. Still hte same sweepers. Still the same positioning statements. They could have recorded a year's worth of voice tracks back in 2000 and just rerun them for the last 8 years. Who would notice the difference?
Sometimes a station wins not because they're doing so well, but because the other guy is just really bad.

They didn't used to be that way but since Cox trimmed the budget and has ruined so many of their top stations it's become commonplace. If you're lucky as a Cox PD, you might get one music test per year. Even with that, you'd better play the exact list, song for song, or risk your job. I'm not a fan of satellite radio, but when you hear stations that sound like that you drive people to satellite.
I travel a great deal and hear a LOT of radio stations. When compared to a successful "Classic Hits" station, Sunny sounds boring. They overuse their recorded sweepers. The jocks (with the exception of one), show no on-air passion for the music. It's liner card radio! A great Classic Hits/Oldies station has a lot of personality and creativity from the jocks. I don't hear it on Sunny.
When you compare Sunny to the old Cool (from a personality standpoint), COOL wins hands down. All of the jocks on COOL interacted with the music, and each other. It sounded off-the-cuff and like they were having a great time being on the air.
So, okay Sunny, congratulations. Your victory over WMMO was history-makingBut don't expect to be a long-term solid player in Orlando unless you fix all of your problems. If you don't think you have problems, well, that's part of the problem!

CBS and Sunny 105.9 caught a break. Of course, when a new station comes rolling into town, everybody's going to listen to it. It's a station that constantly has upbeat songs that are soft rock n' roll, some oldies, disco, and motown. They ARE songs that everyone knows and loves. The question is... how long can these songs keep the listeners tuned in? When is there going to be a point when their rotation gets stale and old? They were smart to sign on before the summer. Why? Because all of their music is upbeat and perfect for the summer. I'm curious to see how Sunny fairs for the Fall book.
Whatever the case may be, Sunny will spike in numbers for another book or two. Eventually, though, it'll even out with the rest of the stations in the market running a similar format. The benefits that I see with Sunny isn't predominantly the music. Technically, they're running the SAME songs as WMMO, a couple from WHTQ, and even some old-school R&B from WCFB (Star 94.5), with some Bee Gees, KC & the Sunshine Band and some 80's mixed in.
In summary, Sunny will spike, possibly, one more book. Eventually, it'll even out with the rest. I side with Bill on this one that it's no great achievement that they beat WMMO. WMMO has been doing the same thing since 1990. Yes, that's true. However, that's what makes it WMMO.
It's just like a new craze. Just like the Barbie doll, the Rubix cube, and the Nintendo DS, people will enjoy Sunny 105.9 for a little bit... until they get tired of it. Then, it evens out with the rest of the market. Big whoop. I'm certainly not trashing Sunny 105.9. I'll give them a kudos for succeeding this book. I just wouldn't bank on them kicking WMMO off the face of the O-town earth just yet.

WMMO hasn't sounded great since Cary Pall programmed it. You call it legendary now, but he was the man who built it.
