Looks like we have more star Texas Radio Hall of Fame inductees in this years group.

Marty Ambrose
Joe Ladd
Mary McCoy
Rolando Becerra
Bill Moffett
Dayna Steele
Paul Williams

It's been my pleasure to have worked with some of these folks in my radio career. Wish Marty was still around to bask in the fame. Congratulations to each and every one. Nothing more rewarding than to have earned the respect of your peers.

Such a shame that a true pioneer like Marty Ambrose won't be with us physically to accept an honor he richly earned. However, for those who will be attending the function that know, we can rest easy in knowing that Marty will be guiding our vehicles along the way.

Congrats to all. but honestly I'm surprised at how lilly white the inductee list is each year.

Where is Lavada Durst one of the state's first black dj's and one of the first in the country. He was more than a dj - he created an entire Dr. Jive Lifestyle for his listeners on KVET. How about King bee, Hotsy Totsy Crown Prince Rick Robertson, George Nelson Travis Gardner and others from the 50's and 60's.

They were the real pioneers who broke radio and racial barriers, building black pride and maintaining calm amidst racial turbulence. Using the medium of radio in ways the folks of the 70's and 80's AOR Country and top 40 stations would emulate and copy.

These were the innovators and every one deserves a lot more recognition than the format jocks that came after.

Gawd if you want format jocks what about- Bill Travis - he has been at Majic and KYOK for 30 years in just about every position and is one of the best radio guys in the country. Zoe Bonet, Don Samuel, Ron Samuels, Mike Caviel, Earl Boston and many others are among the best in the country at what they do and also deserve recognition

Feels like the HOF has turned into a grumpy old middle aged white man's popularity contest.

Many of this year's picks are right on Joe Ladd for example - but Bill Moffett, Crash or Dayna Steele getting recognized before a true pioneer like George Nelson seems very wrong. (no offense to Bill, Crash or Dayna - all great, talented folks but not industry changing giants, or city galvanizing talent then or now)

This all just questions the credibility of the HOF as truly representing the best of Texas Radio
