Congrats to WAAF's Carmelita

WAAF's "Bay State Rock" host Carmelita is one of four nominated for the Noise Magazine's Hall of Fame.

Event is held this afternoon at the Middle East, 2PM.

Shred (WBCN), Carmelita (WAAF), Dave Virr (WFNX), and Angelle Wood (WZLX) are all up for awards for supporting local music on the airwaves.

Congrats to all for supporting local programming.

Wish I could hear these folks more often on the radio.

What are your favorite local music shows and bands?

Love "Boston Emmissions" and "Bay State Rock"

Some local bands that I like are Darkbuster, Waltham, Robby Roadsteamer, Emily Grogan, and Superpower.

As a respected journalist who has covered the Boston music scene for more than 20 years I can say you're wrong. I'm obviously so much more knowledgable than any of the so-called nominees, or even all of them put together, this award should go to me!

PS - BCN sux.

As always Smoke has shown me the error of my ways!..lol. I do love this argument that being a part timer in Market number one is somehow an indication that I have failed....lol.

Before the Indy pummeling I was watching "Iconoclasts" on Sundance channel, Brian Grazer was interviewing Sumner Redstone. Mr. Redstone said something that reminded me of someone on these boards. He said that successful people never take themselves too seriously, successful people have a sense of humor about themselves. It is the people who are not successful and who have failed that take themselves seriously. I cant arugue with a man whose personal net worth is close to 9 billion dollars.

Pfft...you have a long way to go when it comes to failure kid.

I've failed in:

Memphis (market #43 when I got there...#45 when I was fired)
New Orleans (#39 when I got there...#41 when I was fired)
Columbus (#33 when I got there...#35 when I left)
Sacramento (#27 when I got there...up to #26 now that I'm gone)
Boston (#9 when I got here...down to #11 before I was fired)

Son...when you have the power to shift the entire population resulting in redesignation of an entire market...you sir, have truly failed!

Not even a certain writer can claim that kind of success in failure!

To which I retort; What the hell has Sumner Redstone ever done?

Yeah...I fricken thought so!

Oh hold on a moment, if this is a race for failure Im confident that I can give you a good run for your money!.....lol...... By the way: This too is parody, it is only a matter of time before emails are sent around completely out of context from a certain blogger that read something like "Nik Carter and Paul Marshall admit they are failures". IN truth Paul is not a "failure" ......he Is a "hack" (much like myself) but in an industry filled with MUCH WORSE, I think we are both about as OK as it gets.

LOL

I'd rather fail in radio...than succeed in blogging.

I too await the inevitible e-mail from the Chaucer of obscure also-rans.

PS...Hey Nik...At least I never worked for W***

On an absolutely on-topic note; Has anyone listened to any HD2 streams yet? I'm hearing they're rolling out soon, and that soft launches are already underway.

Congrats to Carmelita Re: Parody

Carmelita is a class act - from when she started Mondays & Tuesdays at
Cantones working with the agent for that room - a fellow on the BBC this
week - to her years on WBCN and WAAF. She's very supportive of the scene,
a disc jockey from another place and time - when radio actually cared about
the local music scene.

As far as people taking themselves too seriously - all one has to do is see
the private correspondence between Nik and his antagonist (we'll make Nik the "protagonist" in this episode) to see one guy having sport and the fired afternoon jock getting all red-faced, loud and confrontational. No one takes what Nik says on this board seriously.

I think you got that wrong - no one takes you seriously . . .

At least Paul and Nik have worked in the market (one still does!).

What station do you work at again?
