Yeah, I'll give them props too, but I still miss my New Rock one-zero-seven.

It’s interesting that there seems to be surprise at the fortunes of WYCL… I have been expecting this since that first song played a year ago.

Sure, it’s the music. My 107.3 knows I love Elton John, James Taylor, Rod Stewart, Miami Sound Machine, and My Favorites from the 70s. But, it’s the total package, the “Gestalt” of the station, if you will, that makes My 107.3, well, My Radio Station.

It’s the good-natured banter of Kit and Meg – intelligent, fun, with just a hint of sexual tension to make it fun (y’all here that bubbling under the surface, too, right?). Madison midday? No one is better plugged into the Emerald Coast than she is! And the afternoons? All I can says is – Whit-less? No! Whit-MORE! CJ Whitmore!

But, I have a concern. After this, can My 107.3 keep Kit and his magical touch on this near-perfect station? Or will he tragically be forced to leave Our Town due to some onerous non-compete? This keeps me up at night, sometimes. After the tragedies of Ivan, Dennis, and even Katrina, can Pensacola come back after such a terrible blow?

My 107.3… it’s My Radio Station. And, this Fall’s Arbitron implies it’s also Pensacola’s Station.

Pure genius.

You don't LEAVE a station due to a non-compete. How would a non-compete prevent him from staying at the station? Makes totally no sense.

Of course, that should be obvious, My Dear Boy.

One LEAVES a small market radio station when they deftly move it into such a stunning position. Talents like Kit can't be kept forever.

One LEAVES town when the non-compete does not allow one's competitor to throw money at you to come work for them.

Makes total sense.

WYCL

a) I ain't yer boy

b) it was the way you phrased it. If he's that good, he's already working at one of the top stations in the market. He'd go to another market, not another station in the same market (at least in Pensacola-sized markets).

New Rock one-zero-seven

Ah, New Rock. A station of pure genius. Not a cookie-cutter clone from the mega-broadcaster book of formats. Great logo, too...

Kit's Brilliance

So, how much credit do we give him for crippling WMEZ? How much dumber does he get when his main AC competitor is back at full power?

A big ratings bump in Pensacola and Mobile

I noticed that they also doubled their number in the Mobile book. I wonder how well they'll do when the next Fort Walton numbers come out...

Does this ratings cycle include the Christmas music or was it polled before the season?

U got it wrong

I'm not giving credit to anybody for anything. I just congratulated THE STATION on a nice ratings performance.

Geez.

Pensacola and Mobile

Christmas Music is included in the Fall Book (unless they went all-Christmas after mid-December).

Oh, My Dear Boy, my mistake...

I didn't realize you were a neophyte to the business. Most on here are radio professionals. I assumed, wrongly it seems, you were one of them. I humbly ask your forgiveness. Talking over your head to such a large extent was in no way my aim. I misjudged you. And, I'm sorry.

Apparently you didn't know that occaisonally, My Dear Boy, stations who have been bludgeoned to the extent that WMEZ has will attempt to stop the horrible bleeding by hiring away the competitor's PD. Of course, they do so by throwing cash at the individual in question.

While I have no personal knowledge as to what is happening in the halls of WYCL's competitors, or even at WYCL for that matter, one has to wonder if WYCL's PD might be contacted. It is then, young man, that issues of contract between a PD and his employer come into play.

Now, I could educate you on issues of contract law, but, again, that might be over your head, and I would hate to compound my earlier mistake. That would be rude.

If I can educate you any further, I am happy to help. Please, feel free to ask. I am at your service.

Getting it right

Sorry, I guess I mixed (The Best Mix) the prof's praise of The Kitster in there. BTW, I think YCL HAS done a nice job, too--but think 'MEZ's tech problems probably contributed inordinately to My 107.3's good showing. But, hey, on a related theme--wasn't this the book when Cat was supposed to blast past XBM?
