CONGRATULATIONS HOT SPRINGS, AND US STATIONS

I have a feeling that US Stations needs to be applauded for making Hot Springs a rated Arbitron Market. They are now Market 290.

I was back in Arkansas recently and got a tour of the facilities. Talk about top of the line.

Can't wait until the ratings come out.

Gary, Bob, and Craig make sure that working with US Stations is well worth your while, now even more competitive.

Watch out Noalmark

It's amazing what a little work and owners who actually care about their stations (and the communities they serve) can do. ;) Kudos!

Way to go guys...and yes, it's nice to see owners who own and OPERATE their own stations. You guys have shown us how it should be done. Hat off!!!!

Come on Now, over 150 views and only 3 comments? Hot Springs is only 1 of 4 or 5 rated markets in the state. Hot Springs is growing and has had some huge talent come out of the city including Bobby Bones.

I remember when the new production guy or Engineer at Noalmark was talking up a storm about how great he was, and was going to take over Hot Springs......????

I'll never forget the time that a sales rep and I went to Magic Springs for a concert and set up the sound system and KLAZ complained that it was too loud. Just glad that US Stations took over when they did, because somewhere in Powell things were getting screwed up.

It felt great to work for the UPPER ECHELON of Hot Springs (US Stations). Give credit where credit is due.

What guy was that who worked/works for Noalmark that said he was taking Hot Springs by storm?

:) ;) :
I believe it was you,

(Doc Bryce)

Definitely didn't take Hot Springs by storm, I said was "TALKING" up a storm. BIG difference in words.

The same person who did Top 40 or whatever it is on KLAZ and had to crack jokes about the Hick Station on the other side of Town.

If I remember correctly, that was Jesus Juice and some others that put those words in my mouth. I never said that I was, I just agreed with it if that's what ya'll thought. Someone else mentioned that we all can't be Howard Stern. Someone else held me up to higher standards. My rebuttals where pure sarcasm. It was also assumed by the board that I was going to be on air. I never gave away my hired position. Oh, yeah I remember what got all that started! I was looking for the best place in town to live because I had two weeks to move here, and everyone else went bonkers about me moving in lol.

BTW, since I've been here, KLAZ, KLEZ, KBHS, KBOK, and KPZA have come along way in their audio. No one else here seems to know the definition of hitting lows, mids and highs. Just lows and mids.

For an engineer, I've done well! As for on air, that's a whole other story I can not get in to here. They just know that I'm not a team player.

I will know that US97 has totally turned the corner to good radio when the rest of those awful low bit-rate mp3's they still play are replaced. There are a few strays that were hits about 2-3 years ago in their library. It must have been a Powell phase for getting music cheaply but there are some in there that sound really bad. Otherwise, Hot Springs has come along nicely as a market since I first heard them in 1997.

And yes Doc, I have noticed some audio improvements on the stations you mentioned. One aside though-if you have any influence with the Noalmark stations in El Dorado please tell someone to check the audio levels on KELD. Rush is always on the edge of distortion and Hannity is always distorted-or at least was when I was down that way not too long ago.

Doc Bryce talks about just hitting the lows and mids --- Well, KLAZ ought to know something about hitting the highs, that's for sure. For years, they've run in excess of 110 % modulation. A definate FCC no-no!! One wonders why someone hasn't turned them in.

You are absolutely right, I have seen what you are talking about first hand with the over modulation, but then again what station is perfect?

The company that I am working for right now just layed off 7 full time employees on Monday. Thank God it wasn't me.

I have to say that when I was driving through for Thanksgiving that I was most impressed with KLAZ's audio. very clean, nicely process, no awful artifacts or distortion.....
a sound you almost never find these days

Hey -- are you in Nebraska? I worked up there for about 7 years.

Yes I am.

I was in Arkansas though when we had all of the snow. My wife has been going crazy for snow. and of course when we go to Arkansas, it snows 8 inches here. LOL
