It is with great news to learn that Jay Perkey will be overseeing
programming for 1520 KOKC. Jay comes from a long line of experience
in the business. From his great engineering to previous programming,
He's a no BS kind of guy that knows what good radio sounds like.
Congrats my friend. You deserve it.

Now go kick some A%#

Is this the same Jay Perkey that worked at KAFG in the 1970s? Or was it KJEM-FM?

Yes, and yes.

Sometimes good people that have a clue accidentally get put into running radio stations.. It doesn't happen often in today's corporate radio world, unfortunately. Left to his own devices, Jay will breath life into what would otherwise be a totally DOA station. KOKC seems to be the station with 9 lives, seeming being thown opportunities time and time again without results. If Renda is smart, they'll let Jay straighten that 1520 mess out. But then again, not too many people have accused Renda of being bright. We'll see if daddy Tony will let Jay has the keys to the car soon enough..

Good luck Jay!

Good luck to Jay. I remember speaking with him briefly in the 1970s, when KJEM/KAFG was automated and running Bill Drake's programming. As you say, if Renda is smart, they'll give Jay a chance to straighten out the mess that KOKC has become.

Not Even Jay Perkey can Kill KTOK. Oh the last time I checked KOKC has no Local Programing and KTOK Does

Jay Perky is a class act. He knows radio inside and out, literally, and is
a no nonsense guy.

He does face some serious problems, bad ownership, no budget, a station screwed up beyond belief by - you know who - and no staff to work with.

That is an assignment that on the surface would appear almost impossible to complete.

Two other issues, Jay's health and if he can utilize that Italian temper of his to scare the crap out of everyone so they'll leave him alone and let him do what he does best and that is good radio done right.

One very big plus. WKY's bizarre switch to Mexican. That ensures people looking for something other than KTOK and KOKC and NPR are the only other choices.

A new Newstrack study shows 56 percent of adults still get their news from radio, 37 percent listen to talk radio. There's a market and KTOK is rip for picking and has been for years.

KTOK has been so stripped of operating funds to boost profits, that their capitol correspondent has to use a rubber band to hold his tape deck together and that's just one example of how used up that place is.

Give em h--- Jay and here's one old vet that's hoping you win and win big.
