Here in Dallas, both CBS Radio and CBS 11 television have suffered massive layoffs this year. Last year, CBS stock fell 13 percent, and net income was down 25 percent.

Yet Leslie Moonves just received a 29 percent pay raise.

Not to mention that there have been steady layoffs at CBS Radio-Dallas since 2000 or so. Nearly every year since 2000 has ended with some combination of fewer GM's, fewer PD's, fewer APD's, fewer DJ's, fewer engineers, fewer promotions directors, fewer imagers and fewer producers at Dallas' CBS/Infinity properities.

And the stock and net income continue to fall.

Draw whatever conclusions you like.

Welcome to the world the rest of us live in media folks! Your industry is not imune to "downsizing". Unfortunately CEO's get rewarded for running companies into the ground. I bet the CEO of American Airlines would like to take any bounuses he has gotten and donate it to the maintence budget for next year.

You've got to be kidding me with your statement, aren't you? There is no way in heck that Arpey or anyone else at AMR of for that matter, any corporation that would give their bonuses back. The bonuses that airline execs receive are supposed to make up for lack of compensation that they would receive for such "outstanding jobs" they do, if they were not involved in the airline business. Or at least that is what they want you and the rest of the flying public want you to believe. There have been numerous upper management from American Airlines, as well as other airlines, who are bailing out of the industry because the pay (for senior level management) sucks compared to what they can get in other industries. Plus, with the fact that airliner mergers look to start happening, there will be lay-offs and cutbacks on the way once the mergers (if they are) completed.

I personally don't think all the management people are worth all these stock options, yet when you become upper-level management, you are going to protect your own and to heck with the rank-and-file employees.

This is the "American (no pun intended) Way" !!

it was a little thing called tongue and cheek............

defered maintenance whatever the the industry may be is never a good thing, just ask the folks down in Texas City where the BP plant blew up....
