Congratulations, Pete Salant

He's the latest of the round of hires made by Randy Michaels' Merlin Media to staff their new acquisitions in New York and Chicago, before they even take to the airwaves.

He will be reunited with Walter Sabo, to whom he used to report at the old NBC Radio. Salant's new role has not been announced, nor will it be known if he will be working for Merlin's New York station or either of their two Chicago properties.

You may recall that Salant was last on the airwaves via the now-defunct "96.7 The Coast" in Stamford.

I wonder If Pete is going to give NYC country music back on the air.As I was reading The NYC boards. about this. This would be interesting to watch.I remember someone mentioned they could do news on the dayparts and after hours and weekends they could play music.simular like NJ101.5 is doing.

We're but three weeks away, and it's still anyone's guess as to exactly which direction (all signs point to some form of spoken-word format, at this point) 101.9 will be going. But I don't think they'd make a big deal about hiring Pete - "undisclosed" role or not - if it was going to merely be a weekend gig. And hey - he may end up working for one of Merlin's Chicago stations - I'm sure both of them aren't going to be talk radio...

@WPHA - Yes, we know that His spirit lives on 96.7. ;)
