Congratulations to 860 WGUL....

...for falling out of the winter book entirely ;), probably the first time that's happened to GUL in 20 years!Hard to believe that WWBA actually referenced 'GUL's slogan in a promo. "...where your opinion REALLY counts!" Way to go, Genesis! Copy the one talker with no ratings! What could motivate such stupidity, other than that Genesis once acted as if it were a "Little Salem", and perhaps is just rebelling against its big brother in the field of namby-pamby conservative talk.

Same thing happened in Sarasota with WLSS. Lost over 3/4 of the audience. I really feel for the advertisers that have stuck with them. They probably upped their rates and deliver 1/4 the ears. Too Bad.. Thats what happens when idealogy trumps business sense...

Really should be room for someone to own the demographic GUL once did. I know first hand how strong they were. Some of you remember WLVU FM...we did standards, and let me tell you that demo was hard to pry off of GUL. In fact, peple who listened to us would even refer to us as GUL. Adult Standards can be succsessful in this or any market. The only criticism I ever had with MOYL was mixing in things like Roger Miller...Regardless, GUL owned the demo they aimed right at.

I guess "Dang me" doesnt fit well next to Tony Bennett.....nor did Rogers' on stage ceremonial cigarette-lighting of the announcement containing John Denver as "Country Entertainer Of The Year"...but that aside..the real question remainsNow that youve had letters to the editor published in three of the last four Sunday St Pete Times Sports sections, when does the Times make you their next sports columnist?

Hopefully soon...however, they really do an edit on the sports letters and some writer's opinion isn't made as intended and the letters have a choppy feel.

I stand corrected. It was Charlie Rich, who felt he had been passed over by those who dish out awards because Charlie "wasnt country enough"...then he presents the award to John Denver ala flambe...Roger Miller made an onstage crack at a similar awards show about fellow singer Charley Pride (one of only a few black Country artists) finding himself getting a ride...in the **back** of Faron Youngs tour bus....
