Congratulations to.....

...Cumulus! That's right! Congratulations for killing local radio even more! It was such a disappointment to learn that radio-great Nelson Jewell was replaced by the syndicated, has-been, Rick Dees. I don't care what factoids Rick Dees wants to vomit all over the air. I really enjoyed Nelson voice, his "take" on life in Maine, and everything else that makes a local announcer fun to listent to.

What's even worse? Cumulus is making nation-wide agreements with more syndicated shows as I write this. I wonder which Bangor voice will be replaced next? What a shame!

Hey Nelz, it's great that you're still OTA and working, and (hopefully) it's still FT and you don't have to multitask as much. I must say (and please take it in the spirit in which it is intended) you were a perfect fit on 'EZQ. (Not that you don't fill my old spot admirably) :)

Thanks guys for the comments and support. Just so you have the facts, Cumulus made a deal with Rick Dees to be in so many markets and so many stations. WEZQ was chosen in the Bangor market. I'm still the promotions director for the radio group and afternoon talent on WQCB. I also help Dorian with some of day-to-day things with WEZQ, and am also the backup if she's sick, on vacation, etc. It has been a real challenge since the last round of cuts when we lost our good and longtime friend, True Grit, and a few others. One thing about radio as you all know, expect change. You're either movin' or you're dyin'. I prefer to keep movin'. I'm alive, employed, and surrounded by great and caring friends.

When I read that, all I could think of was Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption

Get busy living, or get busy dying.

Good on ya Nelz. You are one of the good guys in the biz

Agreed. Your posts are always classy and your on air presentation is excellent. It's great listening to you when I am in the area. But if you were multi-tasking and handling 2 daily shows, and they relieved you of some of your duties to run Rick Dees in your place, aren't they essentially spending MORE money to put an inferior product on the air? If so, Yeeeeesh.

Well if your market is looking for the best radio show and want to bury the local talent
Maybe you should look in to getting The Bubba The Love Sponge Show!! You sign Bubba up and watch the other talent pack up and move south!! www.btls.com
DO IT!!!
