Connecticut DTV Stations

I didn't know I would be able to get the digital channels on my LCD tv which is hooked to cable but they come in fine. I am on Cox Cable so for example cable 30 is YES Network then when I turn the channel up it goes to 30.1 WVIT.
I get 3.1 WFSB 3.3 Eyewitness News Now, 8.1 and 8.3 Weather, 24.1 CPTV, 30.1 30.2 NBC Plus 30.3 US Sports, 59.1 WCTX, and 61.1 WTIC-TV. Didn't think it would do that. I am guessing maybe this is how we will get the local stations once the analog stations cut off which are already ofterned by cable.

By FCC law, cable companies must pass through digital stations on their digital plant in "the clear". Because cable uses a different method of transmission (QAM versus 8VSB used by broadcasters) your TV must have a tuner capable of picking up those channels. (Called a ClearQAM tuner). It isn't a direct pass through, BUT you will receive those channels, and a recent change (I believe also is now law) makes the cable company force the PSIP data to pass through, so you see the signals show up on their correct "assignments". (So i.e. WTNH shows up as 8.1 instead of some arbitrary number like 112.4).

I hope that last statement is true. I did a rescan a couple of days ago. My Sanyo 26" LCD TV from 2006 still receives WFSB 3-1 on QAM channel 91-1, WTIC 61-1 on QAM channel 91-2, etc. (I'm with Com-crap in New Britain's south end.)

To add I also got channel 40 from Springfield, MA. Was surprised I didn't get channel 22 or 57. Also how come I don't get 20.2 which is WTXX extra channel not sure what its called.

Also I found in the higher numbers forget what channel number but it like one of those 112.4 that Necrat said. It TBS HD, so I get one free HD channel with just having regluar cable to bad it can't be more. Also in the higher channels their the local access channels and a shopping channel.

Comcast in Western Mass passes through all the Springfield, Hartford, and Boston stations and subchannels via QAM. Most of those channels aren't enabled through cable boxes except in certain regions, but since their head end is in West Springfield everybody in the region receives them if they've got HDTV's without a box attached.

You can get clear QAM stations on a standard definition TV (480p) as well. By the way, are you sure about a West Springfield head end passing through Boston stations some 90 miles away?

Their head end is in Westfield on E. Mountain Road, with a "sub" head end in Springfield on Main St.
All the Boston stations come into the plant via Fiber from Needham.
