Connecticut news

I feel that CT news stations have gone downhill in the past few years. There is no professionalism within the news team, half the reporters look like they come off the street. It seems as if these news programs are just an entertainment program rather than a newscast.

Where?

Ok,
When you say "CT new stations," you need to specify where/which market. Do you mean Hartford, or New Haven. If it's Hartford, that might mean something. If it's New Haven, probably not (smaller market). Or am I incorrect that CT has more than one market? Please expalain which market you are referring to.

Or do you mean, all of them?

For the record, Fairfield County is part of the New York DMA and Hartford/New Haven is one market.

I would agree with Garrett. You can't make a blanket derogatory statement like that without specifics. Which shows are you talking about? And make no mistake about it. These are shows, and just like sitcoms, if people don't enjoy the show and ratings plunge, then the stations can't make money on it and they pull the plug.

Now hiring the homeless as reporters...that's another story. :)

Connecticut television suffers from too many folks in the market who are simply trying too hard to make it to the big markets. Seems funny...but I seem to feel like the better newscasts are in the smaller markets these days. You can always tell who is FROM Connecticut and who is here from out of town...subtle but quite obvious. Guys like Vicevich, Logan, John Carroll...Exhibits A, B, and C.

Additionally....the creative side of journalism isnt there anymore...they just basically recite the paper with video...

That's small market mentality. Here in Lubbock Texas, they run promos like "The 10pm News is not a rehash of the news at 6." Yet what do I see at 10? A whole lotta Prompter reading over AP and CNN packages, that you would swear was word for word what you heard at 6.

Oh sure, it's not like the viewers have a brain. Run the news, sell the air time, go through the motions, and stuff your portfoilio because you own a bunch of network affiliates...

But I digress...
